Would Iran still be a threat to us if we stopped meddling in the ME?

I am just not so sure they are actually a big threat to us, even as their weapons capabilities continue to escalate. They are much more sophisticated than the proxies they fund. We staged a coup in their country and subsequently had a regional power struggle with them since the revolution but ultimately Iran does not want a war with us, and most of their people under 40 don't hate Americans. They hate the American government.

I also don't care that much about muh shipping lanes. It's primarily used for Europe and not us. Not really worth war imo.

What would Iran do to the US if we just peaced out of that entire region? Would they really attack us? Why would they do that? Should we really be worried about Iran?

We would still be the great Satan. They would eventually take over other countries in the M.E. and spread Jihad.

Not directly. If they did, they would be history.

Yes.

They see us as the Great Satan and would still be working against us in various ways even if we didn’t have anything going on in the Middle East.

Fanatical assholes don’t stop being assholes just because you aren’t spending time on their block.

Sure. We have a lot of it, and they won't stop having a lot of it just because we pulled out. You saying we need to go to war because oil?

Yeah it’s pretty much the main reason we go to war. Were have you been the past 50 years?

Keeping oil prices stable is probably the most pragmatic reason I could think of for going to war.

We kind of have to meddle somewhat. We just want to make sure we get ours. If that fricks up a few war lord's plans, why tf do I care?

Not sure what you are saying but if it is that we need their oil, we do not. Any every dollar we spend in Iran is going to proxy wars that try to kill Americans so essentially we are funding them trying to kill us.

We should shut off 100% of the trade with Iran if we have not done so already.

Are you aware that Iran is Shia, and not Sunni?

It’s got nothing to do with “their” oil. It has to do with the world oil supply as a whole and stable oil prices. Also they fund every terror group in the ME and attack shipping lanes, to include our own commercial shipping. They are also directly responsible for the deaths of thousands of American servicemen in the Iraq war.

Look I think we meddle too much in overseas affairs as much as the next guy. The invasions of Iraq and Syria and the intervention of Libya were ill-advised at best and disastrous at worst. But oil and shipping lanes are the absolute purview of US foreign policy and need to be policed by our Navy. It’s just common sense. Some of you really need to get out of your naive bubbles.

They wouldn't attack us directly but they would still fund groups that could carry out attacks against us

They aren't interested in being our friend anyway, we've been bending over backwards since at least 2009 to get them to sign deals and play nice and they've told us to go f ourselves repeatedly while killing US troops the whole time. We've made some mistakes in our relationship with them for sure (they supposedly reached out after 9-11 to cooperate and we told them no) but they've had more than enough opportunities to be our pal and have repeatedly told us no in the most harsh manner possible.

They are fanatics and don’t need reasons to hate. Going back to the Barbary Pirates we have had issues with fanatic Muslims that excuse piracy, slavery and killing as being in the name of Allah against the infidel.

Simply, to them we are infidels. They hate Bahai’s, Hindus, Buddhists, Zorasterians, Jews, Christians and even other Muslims.

The US Navy has taken over from the British Navy in enforcing freedom of Navigation. We have been pretty even handed and benevolent in that regard protecting ships of all nations from pirates etc. We will not and should not back off from that to appease Iran.
