ACC implosion imminent.
Following up, this is part of the temporary ACC fix ESPN lobbied for. But let's be realistic, the conference won't last long with the top tier (Clemson, FSU, and Miami) getting the special treatment. Read the rest of Ross's report, the same deal is coming but with FSU and Miami. Playing Notre Dame yearly will increase Clemson's tv numbers that they will be inevitably waving around here in 4-5 years saying "see! We're a top 10 brand in tv numbers! Put us in the power conference!"

Clemson has UGA and Okla on the schedule coming up as well. Hopefully, those will still happen.

might actually produce a team in the final as opposed to the SEC the last couple of years

Hahaha...are you trying to make fun of the SEC here?
I mean, they go two years without having a team in the game and you're just gonna forget the 8 years prior when the SEC had at least one on the game and on two occasions had both?

The USC/ND contract runs out in 2027 and hasn't been renewed yet, so the timing in that regard is interesting

Looks like Clemson vs Notre Dame were already scheduled for 5 games in the next 12 years anyway.

Imagine thinking this is a dunk on the SEC

LSU fans wanna complain about scheduling tough opponents while Clemson is scheduling UGA, LSU, SC, & ND.

It will also help Notre Dame. Their current NBC contract ends in 2029. They are going to want guaranteed big games on the schedule when they negotiate a new deal.
NBC/Peacock’s 2024 slate of six Notre Dame games was terrible.
Northern Illinois
Stanford
Miami (Ohio)
Louisville (Peacock)
Florida State
Virginia
Army
The only decent matchup was Louisville, and it was Peacock exclusive. The only other ranked team was Army, but it was a blowout.
NIU was probably the best game, but an embarrassing loss for ND.
FSU and Stanford were terrible.

I unfortunately think your hunch is correct. Wouldn’t be surprised if USC has already either directly told or indirectly implied to ND that they will not be renewing the series, hence this pivot from ND to Clemson.

You would have massive backlash from USC alums, but it seems like Riley and current admin are done with the series.

The goal is to make the playoff and the B1G already play a 9 game conference schedule
No reason, other than history, to play this game
No reason, other than history, to play this game

I'd say history, tradition, and rivalry are pretty big reasons for ND and SC to continue playing.

Not to mention - their alumni and fanbases will probably lose their collective shite if this game is canceled.
But nothing surprises me anymore in this miserable college football afterlife we find ourselves navigating.

The vast majority of LSU fans want to see big out of conference games scheduled. Our complaint was that LSU keeps scheduling these premier non-conference games as neutral site games instead of home-and-home series.
Oregon, Wisconsin, BYU, Florida State, USC...all somewhat recent games the fans would have loved to have been on campus instead of a neutral site NFL stadium. We get the next 2 years with Clemson on each other's campus, but then right back to the lame arse *insert corporate sponsor here* Kickoff Special neutral site games in 2027 in Houston.
frick any regular season neutral site game.

LSU has always scheduled well and I couldn't agree more about home-and-home series.
Think about the non-conference teams LSU has played throughout the recent past:
- Southern Cal
- Florida State
- UCLA
- Texas
- Miami
- BYU
- Syracuse
- Wisconsin
- TCU
- Washington
- Oregon
- West Virginia
- North Carolina
- Virginia Tech
- Arizona
- Arizona State
- Oregon State
- Notre Dame
- Texas A&M (when they were in the Southwest Conference)
This is all just since the original SEC expansion in 1992. About they only major programs LSU avoided in that span were the power three in the B1G, Nebraska, and OU. But, then again, LSU had home-and-homes with Ohio State and Nebraska in the late 80s.

The home-and-home with Nebraska was in the mid-'70s. LSU did play Nebraska 3 times in bowl games in the '80s.

I think it would hurt ND more than USC. It is a recruiting advantage for ND to play in SC every other year...USC will be playing all over the midwest and northeast now making them more visible to recruits in those areas. Also F--k ND
