Just maybe the college institutions need to fall back on the quarter system?

Back in the day you had a quarter system which allowed student like myself (unbelievable right) to go to school one quarter and work to pay for tuition.

This Semester shite has sent costs skyward for multiple reasons.

I know the book and tool craft for classes is still shite, but on a quarterly basis was feasible.

Things for young student are fricking nuts now.

Tuition prices are the issue not the calendar. It’s not really possible for a college student to be both full-time and financially self sufficient at most universities these days. An extra week or so to work once a quarter wouldn’t change that.

I liked quarters because you had 4 even periods through the year that were exactly the same.

They do something shitty and cut down during summers when on semesters.

People really need to examine if most of today's degrees are worth the cost.

What was the angle for dropping the quarter system when (seemingly things were better?

There are quite a few schools on the quarter system.

Night school with daytime employment is a thing. Lower cost community college for the first two years, prior to transfer into a state university is a thing. ROTC/HPSP etc fully paying college costs is a thing. Unfortunately, worthless degrees and lack of consequential foresight are things as well.

Nearly 3/4's of universities and colleges were on the semester system going back to the 1930's. Most still use the semester system - the quarter system was never widespread.

Look, I know today is different and you can’t buy used books for classes today the professors figured that one out. All those stores are gone.

It just seems with rising tuition that most of today’s students at institutions procuring real degrees are burdened by the semester system?

The tuition prices.

Need to cut off the guaranteed student loans from the government.

Too much demand, not enough supply.

Infinity price.

I’d rather them not getting money from the government to pay for degrees that are overvalued and needless. Then they couldn’t continue to rape the people

White collar jobs almost universally require it. Only so many people can turn wrenches at the plant

Back in the 70s I worked the summer and went to college for fall and spring semester.

But tuition cost less than today. Along with that pay was less.

Borrowing big money for college is stupid

I can cut costs by 25%. College should only be 3 years.

I think you are just looking for something to complain about.

Even with semesters, there's May-mester and Summer Semester which are basically quarters, where you can catch up or get ahead outside of the main two Fall and Spring semesters.

Also, working your way up the ladder at Barberitos is a respectable career. My BIL worked his way up to shift manager at the Prince Ave location.

You have to make the Deans list to graduate?

I’m not saying I feel I didn’t have a lab to complete when my name popped up but I’m not arguing with the opined wisdom of the faculties…

Tuition has kept growing astronomically because of the availability of taxpayer revenue to guarantee the loans.

Tuition has astronomically outpaced wage increases.
