What are our thoughts on Riyadh Air

A new flag carrier popping up in Saudi Arabia that is partnered with Delta. Supposed to begin service by the end of the year. Just revealed its 787 cabin and looks really impressive
Idk. While again, the hard product looks incredible, I just don't know what to think of the soft product. This will be a dry airline at least through the end of the decade, traveling during Ramadan will be a headache, and I just don't know what to think of SA as a tourist destination (I know it's tourism numbers are growing and that just might be a personal thing)
So...we think this actually emerges to compete with the big 3 middle eastern carriers? Seems like they will have a decent number of North American routes, at least aluded to by Delta, but will be STIFF competition with Emirates and Qatar who have the same

I disagree.
The kingdom will almost certainly change its alcohol laws to make an exception for the airline, and very soon.

Based on what? Women still couldn't drive until 2018. Qatar stadiums were dry for the World Cup. I know KSA has gotten more liberal with permitting movie theaters and whatnot, but illicit smuggling of booze by foreigners to throw house parties is different than a national airline officially allowing it.

I know when it was first announced they were saying it would but that could change I guess
There does seem like there is a movement within the Kingdom where they want to loosen regulations for non Muslim tourists but even that isn't expected to really get set until around 2030
We will see cause feels like they will struggle competing if they don't

I'd rather fly Qatar or Emirates.

Are the big 3 you refer to Qatar, Etihad, and Emirates?

Doubtful as I believe Saudia is still a dry airline.

You are making my point.
Saudia is an airline that is focused on flying Saudi residents elsewhere, and also flying religious tourists to Saudi Arabia.
The entire reason that MBS is creating Riyadh Air is that this new airline will have a completely different focus and customer base.
So, yes, expect Saudia to stay dry, and expect Riyadh Air to eventually offer the finest champagne. Both of these airlines are completely owned by the government. If Riyadh we're going to be a dry airline, it would have made much more sense to simply invest more into Saudia.

I do believe they will eventually serve alcohol, and I bet they go all the frick in on super premium stuff, but I just wonder how long it will take
Either way, interesting there is no true dedicated first considering Emirates and Etihad going all in on first and even Qatars new CEO seems to act like they are going to put more effort into a first class

Kuwaitis too. Those arseholes were complaining about the US always "getting in other people's business" when we went into Bosnia. We were still putting out oil fires in THEIR country when the kid said this in class. At a department of defense school. In Bahrain.
