3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 1 for him IMO

3 <===> 2 but I still personally would prefer 3.

He was for a while I thought? Wasn’t there a decent amount of lineups with Curiel-Dickinson-Jones as 1-2-3?

Why? The goal is to let your best hitter hit as many times as possible

Isn’t the goal to score as many runs as possible?

12 times he's batted 3rd. Batting order for Jones and our record in those games..

#1 - 1-0
#2 - 27-7
#3 - 10-2
#4 - 0-1

Yeah and the thought is to get your best hitter more at bats so that you score as many as possible

Personally I love him at 2 behind Curiel

That's awesome, thanks!

For the "why" question... it's just the way I prefer it. Long explanation to type out, but mainly has to do with A) I like the idea of a crooked number possibility in the first inning > a solo HR, B) at 3, a solo HR or runner on 2B with two outs and a #4 guy up still gives me a nice shot at a first inning point (jk run lol).

Then there's a bunch of other things I take into account...

Also, I def like a power guy at 2, so for me 2 or 3 is a great place for him, but I would personally do 3 for most games.

Why not just put DC leadoff then DD 2nd with Bear in the 3 hole, seems pretty solid to me

In modern baseball the trend is to put your big sluggers up in the order instead of third or fourth. Analysts believe that’s the ticket to scoring more runs.

But they also look at lefty rightie matchups, speed of batters, etc.

Johnson wants Jones up in the order, but he wants him protected and he wants to sprinkle left handed bats around. Second makes sense with Curriel one and Stanfield ninth.

Who's our best hitter?

A) Curiel
B) Dickinson
C) Jones
D) Js Pearson
E) Mikey Ryan

How would game 1 against Tennessee look if Jones was batting third??? He was up (in the 2 spot) with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th.

over the course of an MLB season it’s like 10-15 ABs per slot.

and that’s 162 games.

I think for that 1 specific game in our 60+ game season, you might have a point unless the guy ahead of him got on base too...

He started the season off at 3, and stayed there for several games, at least.

He’s had a number of three hole starts.

What you see is what you get with Jones. Pretty much feast or famine. You can’t really protect him because nobody is close to him with HRs.

9 hole hitter also has to be an on base guy! I think we have a good one this season!

That is what it should be. Let our power guys drive in runners on base. Solo homers are nice but not as productive as they should be.

Curiel is our best hitter and is now 4th in the lineup. That blows the whole stupid theory.
