And less than 10% voted on the tax ballots today.

Imagine if voters actually gave a damn (on taxes and on politicians). Things would get fixed so quickly.

Given BR’s population issues, probably at least 200,000 are ineligible to vote for various issues.

What is Lousiana's obsession with having voting on random arse Saturdays?

They intentionally put them on low voter turnout out elections so they can get their desired outcome.

Allows the organizations to rig the elections and pass their tax increases/renewals.

How the DA fricked it up is beyond comprehension.

I don't know. These things are typically automatic when you have a large organization. The DA employees + their families should sway the vote. That's why they put the vote on this ballot and not in November, I reckon.

Oh, I thought you were talking about fricking up the overall voting on Saturday deal, not just this vote.

No sorry. I meant they fricked up getting this passed when the whole point of putting it on this day was so they could rig the vote.

I would have thought the Parish population was 50% higher than that. Crazy.

The folks who vote for all that money for the public school salaries aren’t big fans of the DA’s office I suppose.

There should be less election days during the year and taxes should on be on two separate elections throughout the year.

There was no clear comprehensive plan for the tax.

There’s 288,000 registered voters in EBRP. Just over 50,000 voted on the parishwide DA Proposition. 17.7% was official turnout. That’s about 10,000 more voters than those for the school tax renewals. St George had an at-large council spot runoff. That shows about 21% turnout or 12,000 voters. DA lost by about 10,000 votes. Schools won by anywhere from 1,000 to 2,000.

I had wondered whether the DA prop would get lumped in with School stuff but they were very clearly separated on my ballot. DA in its own column and the other 5 together next to it. Hard to know what’s going on with the voters. Maybe they are signaling they want to vote on moving money from the libraries? Hillar really swung for the fence making it 20 years.
