How dumb do you have to be to ask about the weather in July in San Diego?

It's alright

Played it when I lived there, but because they were overbooked they let our group move to the south course free of charge

I did a few years back. Great time, but at 1 pm in the afternoon the fog coming off the pacific obstructed any view we had of the Pacific. Kinda bummed , but was still a great opportunity to play a top level course. Just random weather that day I guess. Goat Hill in Oceanside was epic.

While this would seem like the obvious, there’s always a chance the marine layer can make things less than desirable. May Gray and June Gloom are a thing and some are even using No Sky July. Either way, the golfing experience will not suck

Torrey Pines has two settings:
-Foggy AF
-Beautiful

I’m not sure there’s a third option.

I play both every year because I go for a convention. I really enjoy Torrey, but you need to appreciate it for what it is. It’s not a particularly nice course. It’s a muni course that happens to overlook some of the most amazing coastline in the country.

They grow the rough up and get it pretty for the PGA event every year, and for the U.S. Open when it rotates through.

The rest of the year, it doesn’t look much different than many public courses you will play around the country. Except… It’s on cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Tee to green is pretty easy on both courses. Especially when the rough is down. The greens are tricky and they keep them pretty quick. That’s its defense most of the year.

Watch out for the marine layer in the morning.

Also, have drinks the lodge bar before and after. They have a patio overlooking the first tee.

Played there last year, July I think. It was pretty much perfect. Stayed at the Torry Pines Lodge which was pretty awesome. Had a room overlooking the course.

one of better rounds last year was at the North course. Shot a 74. Sot 81 on the South.

Courses were not nearly as difficult as I was expecting. Wide open course. I didn't lose a ball on either day. Seemed like there were only a handful of trees on the two courses combined.

I don't want to say I was underwhelmed, because I thoroughly enjoyed it. The views on certain holes were spectacular. After teeing off on one hole, I took an extra ball and launched one out into the ocean, so that was fun. The green were in great shape considering how much traffic they get. BUT, it's slightly overrated. It's pretty clear the rough is the courses biggest defense and it seems that unless a US Open or some other big tournament is being played there, the rough is actually very mild.

You will 100% have fun. Take the time to take in the views on the ocean holes. They are the highlight of the rounds.
