Most Impactful Louisiana Golf Course Architect all time

Interesting topic for a state not known for many elite courses.
Some would suggest Nicklaus for CCLA and English Turn and others David Toms for Carter and La Tour.
I give the nod to Joe Finger as he designed Ellendale and had significant redesign work on Oakbourne and BRCC (prior to their mid 2000s redesign).

Raynor did Metairie County Club. There's nothing else close thats architecturally significant.
Squire Creek is Fazio - which is pretty good and CCLA is Nicklaus, but MCC and Raynor reign supreme.

Raynor at MCC is the right answer.

This board was absolutely convinced that renovation was going to suck too

Do y’all consider Metairie a better design than Squire Creek or CCL?

Doing a little research it seems Joseph Bartholomew might be the answer.

He definitely had an impact on multiple courses in the region that last today, but he’s no Donald Ross.

I just can’t imagine playing Squire creek and Metairie and coming away thinking Metairie is superior. Just me though! To each his own for sure…

Squire has better topography, views, scale, lakes etc. Metairie has golden age architecture that you can’t find anywhere else in Louisiana. Anyone saying Metairie is better just prioritizes the golf course architecture.

Arnold palmers work at the bluffs was superb and I believe a famous architect did oakbourne in Lafayette ( dick Wilson perhaps) Louisiana has zero historically relevant courses, and none in the top 100. I would say it’s the worst state in the USA for golf

I haven't played the new Metarie, I liked the old one but it had definitely lost the majority of the Raynor. I've played I'm guessing a dozen or so Fazio's and think Squire is one of the better ones.
If you like Golden Age architecture you're gonna prefer Metarie, if you prefer big modern courses you'll prefer Squire. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer between them.

Arnold Palmer group at the Bluffs was special; the property was pure though. Squire made a lot out of nothing

Meh. That’s like saying Robert Trent Jones did Timberlane. Metairie was built by Joe Bartholomew

Besides Nicklaus and Palmer, I’d say the original design by Tom Bendelow at City Park of BR. They renovated it and ruined much of it but it is still a gem.
Built in 1926 and designed by Tom Bendelow, City Park Golf Course is one of 20 courses in the country to be placed on the national register of historic places as the community’s first municipal golf course. This 40 acre, nine-hole course is notable for its natural beauty, mature trees, lake vistas, small bayou, and elevated terrain that varies by as much as 25 feet.

Just a century later if Bendelow were building on the current site he’d be shot and killed by his 3rd visit.
