Update on my cousin and his wife who both lost their USAID jobs.

Just got word that they have already gotten new private sector jobs and are moving back to the states from Turkey.
The good news: they are now part of the private sector and can start contributing to national economic output
The bad news: the state of Georgia just gained 2 blue loon voters.
I’m sure this isn’t a fluke either; the data isn’t out yet and won’t be for some time, but my hunch is that private sector white collar employers who have been dealing with worker shortages since covid will be very happy to see all these white collar ex govt workers eager to get jobs.
This is why I never bought the doom and gloom narrative from left wing posters like 4cubbies, who were insistent these layoffs would be a death sentence.
DOGE’s legacy will not be “cost savings” so to speak, but rather providing private sector employers with a fresh supply of freed up labor that was employed in dubiously productive feather bedded federal enterprises.
Reminder: economists believe there was absolutely a connection between Clinton laying off half a million defense dept employees and the dot com/tech boom, as private sector companies were able to use the skills of the fired fed workers.
4cubbies is wrong. Period.

I’m glad that two workers that are still left leaning were able to translate their abilities to a private sector that needs their expertise.
Chances are the private sector doesn’t screw us over like the government does. I am happy for them.
Over all net win.

Silicon Valley was originally doing DoD contract work with new systems and technologies. Other than the likes of Western Electric and Xerox having done a lot of R&D, petrochemical companies developed new manufacturing processes to use high purity chemicals they could make but no market for.
Things I learned when in Silicon Valley in 2002 to liquidate a flat panel manufacturing line for a subsidiary of Dow Chemical. Dow had purchased the plant to make touch screens for the soon to come smart phones but missed the market by a few months. Japanese companies already had market share. Dow formed its subsidiary, Intarsia, so it could sell the high purity chemicals it made, it didn't matter if the subsidiary made a profit, or broke even. The big money was the chemicals required.
Also, LOUISIANA based I&E tech workers built a lot of those lines in the 1980s and 1990s. They had cut their teeth on the new digital process controls in chemical plants and refineries. By the early 1990s the Top 5 process controls contractors specialty all came from the Baton Rouge area.

Good news. I'm hoping between the Fork in the Road, RIFs and cuts, we lose about 25% of the federal workforce. At least 25%, hopefully over a third.

Good assessment! This is happening everywhere…. Maybe they can get out of the fog and realize everyone must carry their weight.

The real question is how long will they last at these jobs where they actually have to show up and produce. It’s easy to live overseas on the govt dime and you’re not accountable for performing

Link? Y’all never get tired of making things up about me that are easily disproven. But keep jerking each other off over the bullshite you fabricate.

Same with a friend of mine. He was one of the 7000 forest service cuts. He got picked up by our local timber company engineering and building new logging roads.

Lemme guess - they’re gonna blame Blumpf for their “misfortune” instead of seeing the bigger, more efficient picture.
