They are typically running between $3,000 - $6,000

I have gotten a couple for under $600 due to my connections and relationships but i would say $2K isnt a bad deal at all.

It was mentioned in another thread last week or so.

It's a couple of generations old if I remember what Seapickle said about it.

I saw a review from when it came out in 2000. Crazy that this thing was selling for six thousand bucks when it first came out.

For that price it’s a good deal. I found it earlier in the week and it went out of stock quickly.

It’s a discontinued model but that doesn’t mean it sucks. Pulsar still built the thing, so you know it’s solid.

They moved the thermion line to 60mm with a bit better sensors.

Before I bought my xp60, I probably would have bought the xg50 for that price. Just that the 60’s come with an ADM mount now whereas the 50s do not.

The new ones rank in distance clarity, xl60, xg60, xp60

It’s probably a good deal. Not sure what you could buy as good or better for the money BUT that is a reconditioned unit with a 1 year warranty versus the 5 year a new one comes with. Only thing that would give me pause.

Also what is the difference in the XP and XG models?

Yeah, one time when I was double-teaming Livvy Dunne and Lacy Chabert in my penthouseon top of the Empire State Building, Johnny Morris came over, gave me high five, and trailer full of fully-auto M16s WITH THERMAL for free!

Wel the basic specs I will list below but if you don’t know what 17 vs 12 micron is then the below will mean nothing to you so I’ll add a brief level 2 explanation

XP50 - 50mm objective 640 resolution 17 micron 2x base mag
XP60- 60mm objective 640 resolution 17 micron 3x base mag
XG50 - 50mm objective 640 resolution 12 micron 3x base mag
XG60 - 60mm objective 640 resolution 12 micron 4x base

XP has a more sensitive thermal sensor but the XG 12 micron will hold image resolution better as you zoom to higher magnification
The new 60 series have a much better display screen than the 50 series that keeps a wide FOV with a higher basemag.

As someone who thermal hunts a lot more than most, the XG50 is a turd. All of the 60 series scopes are a home run. I’ve used the XG60 and own the XL60. I’ve owned the XP50 and used the XG50.

Hey seapickle, thank you for your response and input. Just to clarify - when you say the XG 50 is a turn, what do you mean by that?

Sorry. Typo, turD

XG50 has a 40mK sensor sensitivity. The least sensitive thermal sensor of all the scopes mentioned.

This rating means how fine of a difference in temps the sensor can display. The lower the number the more sensitive or how small of a temp difference the sensor can pick up. Helps with the detail and sharpness of the image

XG50 40mk
XG60 25mk
XP50 25mk
XP60 18mk

Pulsar has netd and snet - netd is native sensor sensitivity and snetd is system netd (after algorithms). Above is snetd values (recalling from memory here but they should be close)

When I say the xg50 is a turd, I mean in respect to other pulsar models. It's still way above lesser brands like agm, atn and other cheap scopes that people buy because they are cheap.

Cool. Yeah, I went ahead & ordered it. The fact that it's reconditioned & has a one-year warranty does kinda give me pause, but I've owed 4 rifle thermals & two handheld thermals from pulsar (all now discontinued) for about 10 years and all have been rock solid.

I did have to send one in b/c I dropped it, then hand to send in again a few years later b/c one of the knobs was worn down & needed to be replaced. Both times the pulsar distributer (sellmark) only charged me like $35 bucks to fix and got it back to me in a few weeks.

Appreciate your input!
