This is a good team Universal's put together for this remake

quote:

Joseph Kosinski is headed to Miami. The filmmaker behind the $1.49 billion hit Top Gun: Maverick is attached to direct a Miami Vice movie for Universal, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Nightcrawler filmmaker Dan Gilroy is penning the script, from an earlier draft by Top Gun: Maverick scribe Eric Warren Singer, who had to move on to commitments on Amazon MGM Studios’ Best of Enemies, starring Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper. The Batman producer Dylan Clark is producing through Dylan Clark Productions and Kosinski producing through Monolith.

Miami Vice began life as the Anthony Yerkovich-created TV series starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as two undercover Miami police officers known for their love of pastel suits. (“The ambition of the show was to break the form of everything that had come before,” executive producer Michael Mann told THR last year of the series, which ran from 1984-90 on NBC.) Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell starred in a 2006 feature of the same name that Mann directed and which earned $163.7 million globally.

Good choices, but Gosling might be busy with Star Wars moving forward

Gosling might work, Crockett has to be a major skeptic who’s weary from the job. Thats how he was even at the very start of the OG show.

Glover can’t do Tubbs. Tubbs is 100% cop, no nonsense, intensity and needs to have the look. Glover is a good actor but isn’t Tubbs. Maybe somebody like John David Washington, Terrance Howard would’ve been perfect a few years back.

Hard to imagine Powell, he’s too light in demeanor for Crockett. Gotta remember Crockett is a Vietnam vet, ex college football star, marriage on the rocks with a young son and been in the game a long time. He’s downtrodden, his look isn’t him, it’s a costume.

Agreed...but we don't know if the character remains the same or if they'll change him.

They have to get their wit right too. Crockett is sarcasm and cynicism. Tubbs is more upbeat, hopeful.

You’re correct but if they change the characters the core audience will checkout right away and they’ll be gambling on creating a brand new following.

the lead from Rebel Ridge would be a good fit for Tubbs.

So, Colin Farrell?

Interesting, he has the look. One key thing about Tubbs is he’s able to pass for different nationalities because of how he looks. It’s a big part of the old show using him in undercover roles.

Collin Farrell had zero wit and humor in the movie. Love him as an actor and maybe it’s because of how he was written in that movie but no, he was a bad Crockett.

Gosling would work but Brolin could be a fun alternative.

Maybe Pedro Pascal as Tubbs?
