Moving to the area soon, hoping some folks on here may already be familiar with the hunting and fishing opportunities in that general region.

Not looking for a GPS pin, just curious what anybody might have to say about it.

I see there’s a good deal of public land within an hour or so, but is it any good? And I’ve never fished the Tennessee River or the chain of lakes, so any opinions you have would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Have a friend who posts here sometimes. He lurks a lot. He would be able to tell you where to go and what to do. Been with him a couple times and always caught.

When I was a kid I lived on Watt’s Bar. Great bass fishing, I can’t imagine Chickamauga would be any worse. We never really hunted when we lived there, but I remember some guys from church putting their boat in the lake from our back yard and killing some ducks.

Been here for 25 years now. I’m a fisher not a hunter but you’ve got plenty of opportunities. The Tn River system is great for year round fishing - bass, crappie, walleye, stripers. Chickamauga is world class for bass but very popular and crowded. I’ve not fished it but Nickajack is good bass lake by reputation. Watts bar is a bit of drive but great fishing and fewer crowds. You’ve got unlimited options within 2 hour drive. Trout in North Ga mountains, western Nc. Hiwassee River in Reliance, TN is popular for trout but some warmer low water years has degraded it a bit. Check out Prentice Cooper state park and Savage Gulf for hunting. Hope this helps. You’ve come to the right place. Now shut the door behind you!

Tim Ford Dam has a tailwater that is stocked with trout.

Never fished it but I know it’s there.

Grew up in Cartersville Georgia for a few years so we fished around Chattanooga a good bit...there is FANTASTIC fishing in the area....it is perfectly situated for everything in Tennessee, north Georgia and north Alabama....it is a fishermans dream. Typical warm water southern fisheries combined with fantastic striper fishing, some of the best small mouth, walleye, and sauger fishing in the nation and there are even places to catch pike and muskie in the general region. There is also some fantastic trout fishing. It is a fishermans dream.

Hunting is not great. Lots of deer but thats about it. There is some really good duck hunting for the region but the region is pretty bad in general for ducks. There are bear, turkey and even grouse as well as wild hogs but the hunting is not spectacular...its OK but not fantastic. What it does have is some damned pretty places to do it....
