To its detriment, Hollywood has discovered in recent years that a four-word law now governs entertainment: go woke, go broke.
Now, the entire film industry would do well to learn a similar and more positive law: audiences crave Christian content.
The latest evidence for this craving appeared with last weekend’s release of Angel Studios’ “The King of Kings,” which, according to The Christian Post, shattered the record for a biblical animated film by taking in more than $19 million, thereby demonstrating that the audience eager for well-made Christian entertainment includes children.
Incredibly, according to industry pollster CinemaScore, “The King of Kings” earned a rare A+ rating from audiences.

Jesus resurrected from the dead, and now He's resurrecting the box office too.

How many of those have there been? 1 in theaters?

That's pretty bad in modern movie terms, but these days it's all relative to budget

I guess it depends on how many theaters it opened to.

Is it? Which part of the article is false?

The King of Kings, an religious animated movie backed by the studio behind Sound of Freedom, broke a decades-old box office record set by The Prince of Egypt.
Starring Oscar Isaac as the voice of Jesus Christ, The King of Kings earned an estimated $19 million over its opening weekend, according to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter.
That put the independent film at second place at the domestic box office — behind the blockbuster A Minecraft Movie — outdoing major new releases like The Amateur and Drop.

I know right? How silly for accuracy to be a determinant in judging media sources.

Quick google shows it had a nationwide release in 3200 theaters, averaging 6K per theater. It is up to 3500 this week with the Easter holiday.
The budget for King of Kings is only 15M, assuming the traditional 2X budget for making a profit. Looks like they are in the profit at 35M after this weekend.
So not a smashing success in terms of box office historically. However, anything making money these days is pretty much a win.
For comparison the top film last weekend and second this weekend is Minecraft which has brought in 662 million on a 150M budget. It is really the exception to the current box office trends. As theaters are struggling big time.

I honestly wasn't expecting it to make a profit at the box office, so it will be impressive to me if it does.

Man I had a hard time finding this myself, but Angel Studios is reporting it right on their website.

Its up to 45M. So already at 10M profit. Churches start bussing people to see it and look out.

Oscar Isaac is a pretty big actor for an animated biblical movie. Glad it’s doing well. There’s definitely a market out there for biblical animation I’d think. Maybe not one a year but if done right you could put one out one every 2-3 years with various old and New Testament stories and I think they’d do really well.
Almost all parents want good animated movies they don’t have to worry about. A good chunk of them will go with biblical ones.

That's where Angel Studios has been so smart
They know they have a built in audience and just have to avoid saturation, which they have.
They can print money by keeping budgets low and not saturating the market. Super Christians have shown they WILL support these movies
