Looks like it ran from 2014-2017. But, this thread will have spoilers.
Just finished the first season. There is a lot going on in this show.
Millions of people spontaneously disappear around the world.
One cult doesn't speak and smokes cigarettes to "proclaim their faith".
One cult is run by a guy who likes to knock up young Asian women.
The former police chief ( Scott Glenn) is in a looney bin.
The current police chief (Justin Theroux) is the former chief's son. Bangs a random out of town visitor who vanishes after banging.
Chief's wife (Amy Brenneman) is pregnant but, the baby apparently disappears. She joins the smoker's cult.
Chief's stepson is a member of the Asian chick knockup cult.
Chief's daughter of course is the rebellious teen who eventually joins the smokers cult.
Liv Tyler plays a woman who is unhappy in her marriage and joins the smokers cult
Carrie Coon plays a woman who lost her husband and 2 kids in "the departure".
There is some maniac deer who like to crash into buildings and tear everything to shite.
Crazy dogs that hun in packs and kill whatever they can.
A guy who builds "real doll" replicas of departed people and sells them to the families. Smokers cult buys replicas and plants them in families' homes.
The creep priest who seems to be both good and bad and tends to butt heads with the smokers.
Through season 1 still no explanation as to why the people disappeared. Or how/why they were selected. Thanos snap ?

i watched it during that time and its honesty a great damn show. Extremely underrated

Recently watched thru the entirety for the first time with my gf.
It was a fun ride, but we thought it personally went off the rails towards the end. I will say, the entire story is off the rails lol, so that may be more ‘true’ to story than any other ending.

It's about to get real good. Hope you're liking it so far. As I've mentioned before, my GOAT tv show.
Not sure if you want some of those explained a little bit or not. With non spoilers obviously.
You do find out what happened. Not soon but eventually.
I will say, the explanation isn't really the important part imo. It's more of a story of yea, IF something wild like a mass departure were to happen, how crazy would the world get and how would people be effected by it. More of a realistic take on how the world would keep turning if a rapture like event happened.

I repeat the same praise I give this show in every Leftovers thread - the acting is just absolutely top notch.
Some of the storylines are a little out there, but par for the show (certainly not anything that Lost before it or Severance after it wouldn't do) and fit the setting fairly well. The focus eventually lands exclusively on Nora and Garvey and the show is ultimately about them (hopefully that's not a spoiler).
International Assassin and It's a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World are two of the best pieces of episode television ever.

I tried searching for a thread before starting this one. Didn't see any.

I just finished it. Pretty damn good show

I finished it up (for the first time) a few months ago.
It's a difficult show to explain, as shown by your post.
Overall, I think S2 dips a good bit in quality from S1, and then S3 is lesser as well. S1 is definitely the high point for me. But overall I liked the show a good bit.
It's a show all over the map and it definitely goes off the rails wildly a few times. So for me it's nowhere near a "best of" type of show. But it is really solid and for reasons difficult to put into words, I did really like it.
It is definitely overrated by this board though. And that's not a bad thing really, but it definitely was not as good as I had hoped it would be.
As for "resolution," you almost kinda get some, but it is ambiguous and your satisfaction is determined by how you perceived the explanation given. The way I perceived it, I was fairly satisfied with the ending. But I can definitely see why some people wouldn't have been.

The first time we are introduced to Carrie Coon playing her best character: Carrie Coon

Stay far far far away from anything runnor written BY Damon Lindlehoff.
Just take my word. Abandon the show now.

Literally no one hates "Star Trek" (2009) more than me. I'm infamous for it. Family members walk away if I start to talk about it.
Having said that, he's legit with his television shows.
Lost
The Leftovers
Watchmen
Mrs. Davis

Season 2 New town "Miracle", new characters where apparently no one disappeared?
Firemen issue punishments?
Creepy priest takes over preaching at the church in Miracle.
Garvey moves to Miracle with daughter, Nora and adopted baby from the Asian knockup cult.
Naked chicks running through the woods.
$3m doesn't buy much of a house in this place.

Second season is one of the best seasons of Tv ever aired. Every actor was amazing and the writing was elite.

What a crazy ride this show is. The "departure" seems to follow Nora and Kevin?
The mom is now out of the smoker cult and is actively trying to get people out?
The son is the new "Wayne".
Oh and Liv Tyler rides the son while he's handcuffed and then threatens to set him on fire? But, I thought that group didn't do violence?

I have the complete opposite view. Season 2 is when the show takes off and I loved every minute of season 3
International assassins alone makes S2 better than 1.

I wasn't a huge fan of all that dream sequence stuff. I know those are fairly popular around here, but they just missed for me.
