The nation’s average price of gasoline has declined for the first time in nearly a month, falling 8.2 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $3.13 per gallon, according to GasBuddy® data compiled from more than 12 million individual price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. The national average is up 7.8 cents from a month ago and is 46.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has decreased 4.8 cents in the last week and stands at $3.546 per gallon.
“After oil’s sharp drop over the last couple of weeks — driven by concerns over the impact of U.S. tariffs and OPEC+ restoring production faster than expected — gasoline prices have posted a notable weekly decline, with nearly every state seeing prices fall,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

The EIA’s Weekly Petroleum Status Report for the week ending April 4, 2025, showed U.S. oil inventories rose by 2.6 million barrels, about 5% below the seasonal average for this time of year, while the SPR rose 300,000 barrels to 396.7 million.
quote:
The states with the lowest average prices: Oklahoma ($2.67), Mississippi ($2.69), Tennessee ($2.69).
The states with the highest average prices: California ($4.82), Hawaii ($4.47), and Washington ($4.30).
Biggest weekly changes: Ohio (-14.0¢), Indiana (-13.4¢), Michigan (-13.2¢), New Mexico (-12.4¢), Wisconsin (-11.2¢)

The states with the lowest average diesel prices: Texas ($3.11), Oklahoma ($3.15), and Louisiana ($3.16).
The states with the highest average diesel prices: Hawaii ($5.25), California ($4.94), and Washington ($4.43).
Biggest weekly changes: Florida (-10.2¢), Maryland (-9.5¢), New Mexico (-8.8¢), Texas (-8.0¢), Connecticut (-7.1¢).

Good, but you know summer travel season will probably result in higher prices. Don't celebrate too much.
But yeah - it's awesome that a key input for domestic production of anything is seeing some reductions in price.

The biggest share of this is probably state and local taxes on gasoline. They really like to encourage people to buy Teslas there LOL

You do know that gasoline blenders don’t hike up the prices in the summer because of your trip to the beach.
You can thank federal regulations for that.

If you take out the average of Democrat ran states, the national average would be a lot lower

Groceries are going down dramatically too

What are some big things you’ve noticed that have dropped?

It will keep falling. The Saudis are increasing production which will double the effect of the present tariff downtown in economic activity.
Trump is about to collapse US production, again.

Those evil oil companies are targeting those states and charging more there
(this is a sarcastic post)
ETA just for fun. Holy shite California...couldn't happen to a better state

California pumps up its gas tax the most at 68.1 cents per gallon (cpg), followed by Illinois (66.5 cpg) and Pennsylvania (58.7 cpg). The lowest gas tax rates are levied in Alaska at 8.95 cpg, followed by Mississippi (18.4 cpg) and Hawaii (18.5 cpg). These rates don’t include the effects of cap-and-trade carbon policies or low carbon fuel standards, which drive prices even higher in California, Washington, and select northeastern states.

Again? When was the first time?
Trump took office in Jan 2017.
And as a low T soy, don't you want to destroy domestic oil production?

When oil prices went negative? When people were told to stay home and don’t travel anywhere, not even the grocery store?

So trump personally crashed the oil sector by releasing covid? Or what's the story here?
Do you ever pressure test any of your terrible takes in your head before posting them? You should.

Bankrupting the U.S. oil industry was one of Trump’s greatest accomplishments. He is still revered for that by his base and they even claim that it achieved energy independence.
You’re not going to be able to convince some people that $40 oil per barrel is a bad thing.

It started in 2014-2015. It got progressively worse throughout Trump’s presidency. The Saudi’s either worked him or paid him.

Put the US economy into a stall/nosedive = lower gas prices
