I love that the MLB is 162 games long.

It’s a good mix of chill and exciting. You don’t have to watch every game, but most nights you know your favorite team is playing and can tune in when you want. It’s easy to enjoy each game on its own for a few hours, regardless of the implications.

It’s also cool because you get to “spend more time” with the team that’s been built each season. You really start to root for these dudes individually and see their ups and downs. You get 162 teams to watch these guys in whatever configuration you have that year. Football doesn't allow for that at all.

It’s a steady, reliable entertainment all summer long.

Pretty much. I bought FanDuel annual because there are plenty of nights throughout the summer where it’s nice to grill and watch the Braves. I won’t watch every game but during the summer after the NBA Finals, it carries the sports fan to CFB season.

I grew up a Braves fan (spring training here in West Palm Beach and then the SuperStation). Still am. But, while working midnights, I’d listen to Marlins broadcasts. Really loved their West Coast trips because they’d tee off at 10:30pm and would kill the whole shift, practically. It’s almost a cliche, but baseball was tailor made for radio.

Funny enough, I was the anti-bandwagon Marlins fan. Started to follow them right after Huizenga had the fire sale of talent after the ‘97 title. Those terrible seasons that followed made the miracle of ‘03 that much more fun.

Its nice until your team loses in the wild card round and you reflect on all the time you spent watching that shite team.

Maybe watching it with your kids can be a reward.

162 games

I guess I'll be the first to disagree with you. Playing so many games is the main reason I've never been interested in MLB in my adult life. It feels diluted compared to a lot of other sports.

That being said, there's not much that can replace going to a baseball game in-person. And the long season usually means you can get a ticket for dirt cheap compared to other sports. Me and a friend got tickets to a Giants game in SF for $8 a piece a few years back.

But would anyone on here really be disappointed if they trimmed some games off the regular season schedule?

I get where you’re coming from, but once I finally seriously got into watching the Cubs, I wouldn’t ever want less baseball.

The vibes of baseball are just different than other sports, and it’s an adjustment. But once you “get it”, you’ll gain a life long source of enjoyment.

I kinda agree with some others here. Whatever number of games it takes to start season a couple weeks later and end a couple weeks earlier. Baseball shouldn’t be played in 30 degree weather

It's the exact opposite. The length of the season weeds out fluke teams, for the most part. There can be surprise teams through May or June - maybe even all the way to the All-Star break. But, sooner or later, the truth will out. Your thinness in your rotation or bullpen, your lack of consistent offensive pop; something is going to betray you*.

*Obviously, with MLB watering down it's postseason to near NBA levels this doesn't apply as much as years past.

MLB watering down it's post-srason

Makes me irrationally angry because it chips away at everything great about the 162 game season.

The more teams you add into the post season makes the 162 games less important. Eventually players are going to demand a shorter season because the playoffs are now getting longer.

Every play in an NFL game is like an inning in a mlb game (when considering length of season)

I like 162 because I'm a stats guy and baseball is a statistics sport.
