“The Congress shall have Power to lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts, and Excises” and [power] “to regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes.”
Article 1, section 8 of the US Constitution.
Where the hell is Congress? Trump is using some b.s. declaration of a national emergency to levy these tariffs unilaterally. Why are our reps just watching this b.s. happen, ceding a constitutional power to the executive who has used the opportunity to tank global markets?!?
Enough about "corrections". This isn't a correction. This is a self-induced stroke and for what? Congress needs to do their damn job.

The Founders believed there should be consensus among elected representatives, half of which are up for re-election every other year, to pass new taxes. All of us, until this week, agreed strongly with that principle.
Bring it up now though, and Trumptards just love the idea of their idol having the power to unilaterally make those decisions.
Had it been Obama/Biden/Harris doing this, you bet your arse they’d put their “Constitutional Conservative” capes on and declare the President is acting like a power hungry dictator who’s restricting free trade and hurting the economy.

I can’t say for certain what Ron would have done. Based on his past statements, he generally supported the idea of negotiating better trade deals and using the threat of tariffs, but recognized the risk of going too far in that direction. I highly doubt he would be doing what Trump is doing.

I honestly still don't understand what can be executive ordered and what has to be passed by congress. The lines have been blurred for awhile. The problem is also 99% of congress is absolutely worthless.

It doesn't matter whether precedent has been set. The point is that politalk and Trumptards would have eviscerated any Dem if they were doing this, saying it a violation of the Constitution. But here they are preaching that Trump is a master and can do no wrong.
