Where to stop on the way to Fredericksburg Tx

I have a hunting trip near Fredericksburg this month, looking for a nice place to spend the night along the way. Did this trip 2 years ago and stopped in New Braunfels and visited Gruene. It was very fun. Looking for somewhere else this time. Any suggestions?

Plenty of fun things to do in San Antonio. I would start there.

Isn't Austin the kind of obvious answer?

5-7 years ago, for sure. Unfortunately, it’s not the fun place that it used to be. Rainey St is a shell of its former self.

If you golf, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in SA might be good for you for a couple of days. Or The Quarry.
There are several affordable quality hotels on the Riverwalk. (Omni, Grand Hyatt, Marriott)
Pearl Brewery area.
Wimberley, Blanco, and Boerne are great spots to visit as well.
The Salt Lick BBQ outside of Dripping Springs. Dripping Springs is a certified dark city if you’re into stargazing.

Anything is a better answer than SA. Except maybe Austin.

Luckenbach. And just stay there. Seriously. If there is a question about the Hill Country in my opinion Luckenbach is the answer.....

Luckenbach. Seriously. And get a burger at Alamo Springs Cafe. There are some places to stay nearby....There ain't a better place on the planet to waste a couple of days pitching washers, drinking beer and listening to folks pick guitars....and if you pick yourself join them, they'll be glad to have you....

I second the stop at Alamo Springs Cafe. Assuming you travel there from I-10, you can take Old No Nine Hwy/Old San Antonio Rd north about 3-1/2 miles, then turn right on Grapetown Rd to Hwy 1376. Paved backroads through pretty countryside. At Hwy 1376, turn right and Luckenbach is about a half mile down the road. Fredricksburg is a short drive from there. If you have time, drive the Willow City Loop. It is a private road, but the landowner(s) allow the public to drive through. Fantastic when the wildflowers are in bloom.

May want to check but Alamo Springs Cafe closed in 2024 and is supposed to reopen sometime this year. I do not think it is currently open.

Austin. If you can’t have fun in Austin for one night, that’s an issue.

I live in Boerne. About 50 minutes away from Fredericksburg.
Boerne is an awesome town. Check out Leroy’s, local Tex-mex BBQ shack. It’s about 10 minutes out of town. Go next door to the market and get the homemade ice cream.

And about 30 breakfast tacos from Mary’s in Boerne. I want to buy a franchise for West of Houston.

Alamo Springs - just read a review that said it opened back about two months ago, but I would still check.

It did. After having a burger there hit Bankersmith, Texas bar just down the road . Nice outdoors beer garden and live music.
