Ate there Saturday, kind of disappointed. Anyone eat there lately?
Platter of Onion Rings. Had the Shrimp Rémoulade, Fried Fish. The Beer was good.

I've eaten there a handful of times since the new ownership. Its just ok. I haven't found anything particularly special on the menu to draw me back. Before things started really going down hill with the previous owners I ate there several times a week for 20 years. Really do miss the "old" Sammys

Hadn’t been in years. Just wanted another option. Thanks.

Met a friend at the Mike Andersons on Airline the other day. I know Mike doesn’t own the two there, that one and the Gonzales one. Harry owns those two. But they are both very consistent.

Friends tell me it’s still the best option to get boiled crawfish if you’re having to eat them at the restaurant (which I will). Is that the case?

Saturday it was packed. What little bit of a bar in front, it too and the seating in that part was full!

Not only has the food gone downhill, the place is dirty constantly and the bathroom in the bar area has been out of order for like 6+ months.

Also. I said for years I don’t understand why they don’t put a sign on the door letting patrons know it’s the bar side and to walk around to the other side. For years the bartenders would have to scream across the room to let patrons know they’re on the bar side when they’re standing in the room confused.

They FINALLY put a sign up, and it’s an entire paragraph explaining. Nobody reads it because it’s a novel.

I’m tempted to sneak over in the night and put out a sidewalk sign that literally says “RESTAURANT ——>” pointing to the restaurant side.

A paragraph!

Probably, yes.

The best boiled crawfish around town come from takeout spots like Crawfish on the Geaux. So Sammy’s is one of the only options for dine in.

Lakeside is actually WAY better, but it’s a bar, so if you have kids or elderly people with you that’s probably a no-go.

Will just be me and the wife so if Lakeside is better that's where we will go. That's the other spot that was mentioned.

Lakeside's boiler is just really solid. Sammy's is fine, but they use some sort of pepper that is so distinct to me.

Follow Lakeside's Instagram or call to get times. They don't boil 24/7. It's like 4pm-8pm.. I WANT to say every day, but not 100% on that.

The boiled crawfish at Lakeside is better imo than Sammys.

I didnt even know it was still open. What's been going on over there? Is it the same owners from 10-15 years ago?

Le Chein is another really solid option if you don't mind driving to Denham Springs. I would put them above Sammy's and Lakeside and it's good for kids.

Wayne Stablier bought it several years back, but then he gave all his restaurants away a couple years ago to his managers, minus one place.

I live in the area and pass Sammy's often. My husband and I used to text each other when we'd pass and the line/wait was insanely long because we just couldn't believe a place would be on that level of wait. We haven't done that in years. Nobody seems to go anymore.

Crawfish season seems to be the only thing really keeping them afloat.

It has definitely gone downhill in general, but I also think that type of restaurant/food isn't as popular as it once was. Baton Rouge restaurant scene has really expanded to having lots of interesting options. Fried catfish and poboys will always be solid, but we no longer need 50 restaurants serving it.
