I am just hearing about this amendment because of 50 cent putting in his 2cents in the matter. Can anyone shed some light on this matter.

Based on the type of people against it, I'm guessing its a good thing.

The idiots where I’m from are being loud about being against it. I’d support it for that reason alone if I still lived there.

I was thinking the same thing. It's good that Southern states are competing with each other to attract business. The South seems to have a bright future. I just hope greedy corrupt politicians don't frick it up.

Ultimately, I'm against it. While it would solidify a teacher pay raise, there are other aspects of education (like band programs) that would likely lose funding.

I voted against it.

For the simple fact they crammed so much shite in it.

For years they've been after the TRSL funds. Liquidating the three trust funds packaged behind tax cuts seem shady. They are removing them without any guarantee they are going to actually put money into the system later. 2 billion used now to pay down the 11 billion in then unfunded liabilities without a plan doesn't seem awesome.

Especially when it's tucked away and bribing the teachers with a 2k salary increase that's not really an increase and not guaranteed to move over year to year.

Seems fishy as shite. They could have broken this up into sections and addressed each one.

Edit to add they claim they'll pay down from of the liability.. it'll end up in the general fund and screw over the pensions. They've wanted that for years.

They'll eventually go after all of it.

That was my first inclination also but I had Grok analyze it for me and it’s a giant heap of bullshite

At some point we have to get a handle on these deliberate votes on random weeks where no one votes. It doesn’t matter what the subject is. Why is there an election this week? It could have been held last November with everything else.

Except the biggest amendment in the ballot wasn’t even passed in the legislature until November…

I agree and it sucks that they can just put these same failed amendments on another random Saturday later this year, until they pass. My comment isn't necessarily about the amendments on the ballot, just how the special interests suffer no consequences for failure and can keep using these wonky dates until they win.

Then it should have to wait until a real election day

Too bad. If you want an amendment on the ballot, actually work and pass the legislation in time, or wait until the next election.

Louisiana’s random elections are total bullshite. It’s why we have half of the random state and local set asides that we do. They pass because no one knows they’re even supposed to vote.

The Louisiana legislature is the most ineffective deliberative body in the developed world

I’m done with hoping the business climate will improve. Landry is a lightweight plaintiff attorney shill and the few beneficial changes to make it to the ballot are voted down due to failure to present a cogent argument for the future. ACLU wins again. Should have left after Katrina like most of the family. Live and learn.

I’d be interested to see voter turnout for this election. My precinct was surprisingly busy for a random election.

I’d be shocked if it was higher than 20%. Our off elections are usually dismal. Louisiana voters don’t even show up for real elections. Our turnout hovers around 40-50% for statewide elections.

Turnout was 36% for the 2023 governor election.

We’re a dumb, apathetic state led by dumb, apathetic people who are elected by a dumb, apathetic population.

Same with my Precinct. There was actually a line of 6 people in front of me. I was quite surprised
