Then why is everyone saying we will have him for 3 years? Just out of habit I guess?
The good players are always older for their class because family holds them back in school for athletic reasons

How can you be draft eligible as a sophomore? Am I missing something?
Update: sorry didn't know he was already 19. But isn't it 3 yrs removed from high school?

It's either 3 years removed from high school or age 21. He turns 21 in May 2026.

NIL could help keep draft eligible sophomores. Just saying.

Just depends where they would be drafted. 1st Rd'ers, probably not. A guy like Jared Jones, sure.

Yeah like I said NIL will help keep draft eligible sophomores. Top tier will go but could definitely keep guys that would go in 3rd and up.

No it can’t. Baseball players aren’t making 7 figure deals in NIL or anywhere close to it. Herring left for $800k last year. He was a 6th round draft pick

Curiel’s birthday is in May. If he would stay for three years, he would be turning 23 one month into his first full season of pro ball. That’s not something a lot of guys are going to want to do.

I think we’re seeing a shift away from this. MLB in recent years have been fast tracking guys outta college to get to the big leagues. Hell the Angels have a guy from DBU that won’t pitch a single minor league inning before making his MLB Debut. I think players are noticing this are more willing to go to college, especially with NIL and less concerned with starting their pro career asap.
I don’t think Curiel stays for his Jr year though.

I had to turn off Moscona yesterday morning bc he was so damn confident to let someone know that we had Curiel for 3 years.

Very fair point. Cam Smith only had 114 Minor league ABs before making the Astros.

All I know is that I ordered his jersey from China assuming he would, at least be her next year. By the time it gets delivered. He has some Tony Gwynn in him.
