Hear me out: Shores can be Hess (SIAP, but I hadn’t seen it)

Hess was pretty mediocre to bad as a starter. Maineri moved him to the pen and the whole dynamic changed. He threw max effort , his fast ball seemed to move more and picked up a few mph. And he didn’t have to worry about a second time through the line up.

I see a similar possibility for Shores.

Once guidry shows he is ready, Cowan becomes Sunday starter, and Shores goes to pen.

Fingers crossed this happens and works.

Hess had a hard slider as a closer and his fastball could get whiffs. Shores doesnt have that. Also this is shores’ money year, he very likely isnt going to the pen

Shores doesn’t have the attitude that Hess did.

I wish I could downvote this twice, Hess started out as a closer and was then moved to a starter

Shores is the most overrated pitcher I’ve seen in awhile.

Right now his slider lives in the batter’s box.

I love the confidence but Wanna try again? I’m guessing you only turned the games on in Omaha.

Hey dumbass, his first 6 appearances his freshman year were starts. Check the stats. It was between him and Walker as to who would be the third starter.

Then he got to the pen and was awesome for the home stretch.

Then they put him back as a starter and he was ok but certainly not great.

So because it’s his money year, LSU’s baseball team has to just suck it up and start him no matter what?

No, but its in lsu’s best interest to keep starting for several reasons including that one.
Another good reason to keep starting him is he is the key to winning omaha. You want lsu to have a chance to do that, keep throwing him out there, otherwise, not sure the staff will have what it takes

Agree to a point. There are a lot of potential 3rd-starter arms on this staff. We just really one of them, be it Shores, Schmidt, Noot, etc, to step up their game.

Players improve, the season is long, and it's more important how we're playing on May 25th than March 25th.

Shores showed in 2023 he can perform well in the same role Cowan is filling now. Why do you think flipping their roles would preclude the possibility of winning the CWS? Are you thinking they can only win in Omaha if Shores reaches a level he has not yet shown that Cowan is unable to achieve?

Because lsu has about 3-4 really good arms right now and 0 elite ones. He has the possibility to reach elite status. I think theyll need something either close to that, or that to go all the way.
