In 2006, I bought my first flat screen TV. It was a Sharp, LCD, not plasma. 52" Sharp HD. HD was early in its life. I had just won a wad of cash and used it to put a TV/entertainment system in my living room

Paid $5500 for that TV. In 2010, my house got robbed and it was stolen. The insurance company bought me a brand new 60" Sharp, LED for $800.

I also paid $800 for a early Compact Disk player in the early 80's that only worked for about 7 months. I could not believe the difference in sound between that thing and a cassette tape player

What did you pay way too much for but did it anyway

Had a buddy pay something like $15,000 for one of the plasma TVs with they first came out.

I bought one of those Bill Dance’s crawfish baits for like $10 when he made them stock pond famous. That was years ago when it was unheard of to spend more than $2-$3 on a lure. Never caught a fish on that damn thing.

I saved up and bought a DVD player for $350.

I was 13, it was in 99/00 school year, was so pumped about it and was such a dumb purchase looking back

Flat screen TV in 2004. That thing was 2 grand and not big. It's absolutely laughable how inexpensive TV's are now.

First big screen was a 50 inch plasma $3500

It blows my mind when people talk about how expensive early tech was like computers and VHS and then you think about inflation on top of that.

$2500 for a computer today is still a very nice computer. $5500 for a tv today would buy maybe the nicest thing on the market.

Crazy to think how high prices were even compared to today and the dollar was worth more then as it is.

There's lots of folks that bought their first microwave, VHS tape player, computer, car phones, etc. that paid WAY too much for them by today's prices.

Almost anytime new technology comes to market, especially in electronics, it's going to carry a price tag higher than a giraffe's arse and then come down to levels the Average Joe can afford over time.

I can remember my first mother-in-law paying something like $1500 for a VHS tape player when they first came out and within a few years they were selling for less than $200.

65” Sony flatscreen HDTV circa 2003. Don’t even want to say what I paid for it. 720p in all its glory. It lasted until about 2010 when the screen started going black in one corner.

75” replacement with 1080p cost about 60% of the price.

Brings to mind the Ron White skit talking about buying sunglasses. It is a comedy skit but it is dead on. Think about buying a high end pair of sunglasses for $300. You can go three doors down and buy a 50" flat screen TV now for $300.

Compare those two things and try to make any kind of sense of it.

When I was about 25 I bought a 46" DLP TV from Conn's on a zero-interest payment plan (as long as you paid it off in X number of months)

Damn thing was like $3800.
