Watching North Woods Law just now and they had a guy out in the woods harvesting the coiled tips of the Ostrich Fern plant. They must be thoroughly washed and cooked. No idea what it tastes like - maybe kind of like artichoke?

I've had them as more of a garnish in some restaurants. I think the first place was at Gautreau's years ago. They were good. The texture was crunchy and chewy at the same time. I can't recall the specific flavor, but asparagus comes to mind.

Is there a limit? Or just a random run in?

They’re popular in Quebec. Pretty good. Very mild. Closest taste I can think of is green beans

No limit.

The guy had about a half a bushel of them.

I had some in a scallop special at beausoleil. First and only time I’ve had it. Can’t recall the flavor but it was good.

Cooked with them up in Maine around mid may years ago. Delicious.

I've harvested and eaten them several times in New Hampshire. There were always patches where I could pick a couple gallons worth in 30 minutes. I think the wife steamed them with salt and pepper, and sometimes blanched them and we are them as a salad with some light dressing.
