Audiences worldwide want more comedies and thrillers in theaters, according to a new survey from the Global Cinema Foundation. But overall, the lack of appealing films is the biggest obstacle to going to cinemas more often, the study found.

More than 68,000 respondents in 15 markets around the world were polled on their feelings about moviegoing, with 72% agreeing that going to a movie in a theater is a good value for the money. 55% said they wanted more action/adventure movies — despite a solid amount of this genre already in theaters. Though thrillers, comedies and rom-coms such, as international hit “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” have moved largely to streaming, at least in North America, 51% of moviegoers said they wanted to see more humorous fare in theaters, while 46% wanted more suspense/thriller movies.

Audiences over 45 were the most dissatisfied with the number of compelling films in theaters, despite having the time and desire to attend. However, 68% of customers said they were excited by the upcoming film line-up, while a solid 83% of younger customers under 34 are excited by the upcoming slate.

The study also found that 64% of customers don’t see any barriers to visiting cinemas when there is a movie they want to watch, while according to the survey, only 6% prefer to wait and watch on streaming.

More comedies, please

Exactly you can make good comedies for cheap, similar to the horror genre. It's crazy how they just gave up on it.

My favorite genre by a mile and we get next to nothing (excluding deadpool)

If they made a movie like Tucker and Dale vs Evil id break my theater hiatus in a heartbeat

Make it funny

Offend people

Don’t apologize

Don’t pander to the woke crowd and hit it with kid gloves

Attack everyone

It’s a simple recipe . Survive the initial onslaught of the woke twitter brigade and profit

That will be a tough sell after Costner tried and failed miserably.

I want more raunchy comedies. The only time I’m ever “frick this woke bullshite” is when it comes to comedy movies. Nobody watched a movie like Very Bad Things and was like, “Guess I’ll go kill a hooker now.”

Comedy only works when you don't put shackles on it. We don't live in those social, cultural or political times. Comedy in Hollywood is currently a fugitive with no direction home; screenwriters have no idea how to make funny the oh so sensitive progressive bubble they work in.

Westerns are often expensive and sometimes off the rails expensive.

Comedies are like horror, as others have said, where you can do them cheaply.

Thrillers are going to be tough, b/c of the cost:return. Your star power to get the movie off the ground + a good director already has you around $40M.

Action movies could theoretically be done if they're done smaller with more practical effects. There is a robust B-movie action industry right now, too.

I think the larger point is that we are about to reverse course and we are forgetting comedies often play off those cultural stressors.

Yes! I wish that peacock gladiator show wouldve been good but it was pretty shite.

I know this is probably a redundant question, but did you like kingdom of heaven directors cut?

I liked the movie, but I don't think I've seen the director's cut. I'll have to check it out.

Directors cut almost feels like an entirely different movie and i think most changed their opinion after watching that version. Its really good. It is like 3 hours long tho

Um, non woke with macho leading men. Ex: like sly, Arnold, Willis etc

Don't want leading women as badass. That's why you see so many women putting hands on men and then getting a reality check. Sorry femmes, movies ain't real life.
