She’s 21.

At some point, if you’ve gotten this far in life being a successful actress etc, why even get screened?

It doesn't add any value other than virtue points.

They/them pronouns can make articles confusing as hell to read.

This is ridiculous and shows you know nothing about people on the spectrum.

Calm down Nancy. I'm not dissing autism or autistic people. I'm simply asking an obvious question.

If I had graduated college and had become one of the most successful engineers in the world and had a great life...I’m not particularly going to care where I fall on the spectrum. And if I did discover it, I wouldn't put it on blast. It would obviously be working for me at that point. So what value would screening and letting everyone know bring?

Buncha panty twisters in this thread. I guess I touched the holy grail asking a question.

This. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was a little boy. I stopped taking medication for it 20 years ago. My sister (no pics) was diagnosed with ADHD in her mid-20s and thought all of social media should know. She even joined Facebook groups dedicated to the subject and referred to it as a "disability."

I mean, that's a her decision, but it's helpful for people with autism to see someone in the spotlight open about it. Makes them feel less of an outcast.

In terms of what it would benefit for a screening, we don't know what specific things she struggled with, but knowing there are roadblocks that are out of your control can help you manage your life. My son is autistic, he's really smart, his memory is crazy, but he gets so sidetracked or can get overwhelmed with how big he perceives a task to be and he just shuts down. You can't get rid of autism, you just figure out ways to you navigate every day things.

That's exactly my point.

At that point, be an adult and keep that shite on lockdown. Don't make excuses for yourself, everyone sees through it.

I have no problem with that. I have an issue with people broadcasting their own disabilities for points. I can't stand that shite. Let your actions and other people speak to that.

The whole "non-binary" crap is largely just autism.

Is this in general, or are you saying that's what she's doing? I'm not getting that from the article.

Well the autism explains that. A high number of females that are "trans" and "non-binary" are on the spectrum.

Lol @ pretending autism and adhd are remotely the same thing.

And people have been saying she looked autistic for years now, so keeping it under wraps was impossible before she even knew

Both I guess

The fact the article exists In the first place implies this information was meant to be public for some purpose.

If I was her, I wouldn't have wanted that out at this point.

while i don't think you said it in the most eloquent way, I understand what you meant.

growing up i was an all over the place kid, made good grades, but lost focus quickly. made it through college and HS fine.

after a couple of years of work, my reviews were always that i did a good job but had severe ADD/ADHHD. in my 30s, people would make jokes about my 'tism.

honestly, i have a lot of weird little ticks. if somebody tells me something i think is wrong, i will feverishly look up the answer and prove i'm correct. if i feel i'm being ignored or talked over in in a conversation i'll interrupt pretty heavily. if i'm in the office or at home and i decide to go do something, you can almost be guaranteed i will find something else to do and get off task and half the time.

most of those are things i adjust for and have learned behavior to overcome, but i'm 40, at this point i don't see sense in going and getting myself tested. i'm sure i'd benefit from finding out where i'm at on the spectrum, but for now, I'm fine.
