Harvard expanding free tuition in diversity push

Harvard University announced Monday it will be expanding free tuition to more students, a move adopted by other schools since the Supreme Court ruled affirmative action could no longer be used in college admissions.
Harvard said students from families making less than $200,000 a year will not be charged for tuition, expanding on a previous decision to make the school completely free, covering tuition, housing and other costs, for those coming from families making less than $100,000 a year.
“Harvard has long sought to open our doors to the most talented students, no matter their financial circumstances,” said Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean Hoekstra.
Unless they are Asian and white.
Other elite schools including the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have also sought to expand their financial aid offerings as a way to maintain or increase diversity in the wake of the Supreme Court’s affirmative action ruling.
“We know the most talented students come from different socioeconomic backgrounds and experiences, from every state and around the globe,” said William Fitzsimmons, Harvard College’s dean of admissions LINK

How is a free tuition program only available to certain ethnic groups not discriminatory?

Ivy League Schools have lost so much of their reputation from this DEI garbage. I'm at the point where someone with a Harvard degree would be seen as a detriment during the hiring process. There's no way these people are getting a legitimate education.

This is just based on income and not based on race, gender, etc. It’s a step in the right direction. Get the most talented students regardless of their ability to pay $100k/year to go to Harvard. Not sure why yall are shitting on them, they’re going about this in the right way

This is why I instruct my 16 year old to fill in the “African American” bubble when taking tests.
Myself, my wife, and my wallet feel it’s the prudent thing to do, so she now identifies as black.

They even spell out it's to increase diversity.

The problem is it only applies to admitted students. They are still using race and gender as admission criteria.

I worked with a girl, in this case she was quite smart. She had a Harvard degree and a law degree. She laughed that she was a "quad"....sometimes. She was black, female, from Jamaica.....and lesbian sometimes.
She equated it to being a good athlete and using those skills, why not if a scholly was available?
She was right ya know.
On another note, if they do this "free tuition" to circumvent fed law, they should not be offered federal funding AND they should be sued by the govt for discrimination. Its no different than a thinly disguised Jim Crow law.

Couldn't care less what type of free tuition they get, as long as taxpayers are not footing the bill.
Go woke and go broke.

They’re not allowed to use race and gender. It’s very clear in the SC ruling…

I don't blame people for taking advantage of it, but that still cheapens the value of the education.

Yes but they can’t use race or gender in their criteria for admissions. We’ve even seen the results with the most recent Harvard class post SC ruling being much more Asian and white than in the past. Instead, they’re removing the income barrier, which increases diversity in effect since a greater % of minorities are poorer, but it’s based on making racial or gender decisions

Maybe those poor 4.9 GPA Tennessee valedictorians that can’t read will get into Harvard now.
