Weed control In beds near patio/house

I have some beds with box shrubs and loropetalum in front and on the side of my house. We keep it well mulched, but this past year and this spring it has become riddled with weeds.
Are weed barriers the way to go or should I do something else?
TIA for any advice.

Every time I mow, I walk around with round up and spot treat any weeds I see.
If you forget about it for a week tho, it becomes unmanageable.. have to do it every week

I weedeat and spray round up around borders of gardens. Then maybe every month I’ll spray ‘over the top’ in a 3’ border around gardens. I’m mostly doing it to keep torpedo grass out of the gardens though.

When you lay down new mulch, you could try a few sheets of newspaper under the new mulch. It’ll decompose but might buy you some time with weeds.

newspaper or cardboard under the mulch
90% effective and no expensive or harmful chemicals

Do not use landscape fabric. That stuff is awful years later.
I agree with the newspaper/mulch suggestion.

Dimension granules broadcasted heavy
Will not kill weeds already growing but prevents germination of any new seeds
