I’m moving me and my family to Columbia, SC within two months and I was wondering where are the safest areas to live in Columbia?

I’m sorry to hear that

But you’ll want to look in Forest Acres and Shandon if you want to live in the city.

Just awful. Hottest place in America. Plan an escape when you can down to the lowcountry.

Low country in summer is pretty miserable

It’s suffocating here in Louisiana as well. I think it’ll be ok.

If you are going to live in Columbia itself, pick a neighborhood that feeds into AC Flora or Dreher High Schools (Shandon, Rosewood, Forest Acres, Woodhill area). Stay away from all the others in Richland County.

If you want to live in the 'burbs, go for the Lake Murray area with either Lexington on the southern side (feeding Lexington or River Bluff High Schools) or the "Dutch Fork" area on the northern side (feeding Chapin & Dutch Fork High Schools).

Good private schools but they are unnecessary unless you just want to splurge or prefer a parochial education.

Columbia has nice areas that quickly turn into bad areas so be careful. If you know where your job will be I can give you additional tips. Lived in and around the area 38 of my 39 years. Columbia is largely unremarkable but extremely livable. Plenty to do. 2 hours to the beach and mountains for day trips / vacations.

We don’t mind it at all. Heck, I work on my balcony most days until the sun comes around. And it’s usually pretty breezy and we have easy access to multiple beaches.

Will be up in Columbia for the Bama game this fall. Excited to check out the scene.

Sounds like any place in Louisiana. Should be an easy transition.

And there you have it. The food in SC is remarkably shitty, though.

How are you going to generalize an entire state's restaurant industry?

I'm not a fan of Columbia, but there are some really great restaurants there.

I had to boil sausage in crab boil to try to make it taste like something. I did have a beer with Tommy Lasorda in Greenville, so there's that, but the food was shite.

Columbia is the only place I've ever been where the Tabasco in a the restaurant had gone bad, it was so old. How you spoil something made up of 99% preservatives, only SC could do.

Tabasco is like the 10th best hot sauce available.

You do know Charleston is in SC, right? It's a top food city in the entire country and no other city this small comes close.

Take Vincent’s advice. Mine would be Chapin is the best area, followed by Lexington. Try and get on Lake Murray if you can because it is a beautiful lake.

I'm sure Charleston is great at seafood, there is plenty of old money to pick over. But, we were talking about Columbia.

You've levied the claim at "SC" a few times now. If you mean Columbia, say Columbia.
