Very sad to hear. When I went to sign up for a membership about 9 years ago, Red himself took me on a tour of the entire facility. Just me, like I was the most important thing he had going on that day.

That shows what a amazing businessman he was and why he was so successful. I still remember seeing him driving a Lamborghini when I was a kid back in the 80's and wanting to be that successful when I grew up.

I spent much of my childhood there in the 80s/90s and would see Red at front desk as recently as about a year ago.

When my father passed away about a decade ago, one of his long time staff asked to leave for about an hour to stop by the wake. Red decided to go with them.

I remember telling him I played a lot of solo racquetball there before they added basketball. He seemed sad that racquetball had fallen off in popularity.

RIP. He was at the front desk almost every day helping scan folks in even until his final years.

Similar story, my now wife went to sign up years back and no one was available so Red himself handled all her sign up paperwork and everything. Red recognized her last name and started telling her about this guy he wrestled in high school in New Orleans who they also called Red, they called him "the other Red", it was her grandfather and he chatted about it like it was just the week before.

I also recall him riding a very tall unicycle in the parking lot during 80s/90s.

Years ago, Red let a friend of mine work out at Red's for free for a few months while he was training up to go to USMC OCS. Class act.

Also remember that white Lamborghini he had in the 80s.

I havent lived here long enough to remember that, but I do know that beautiful Corvette was parked in that first spot every morning at 4 am. Hell of a man, he will definitely be missed. They'll have to the use the Cajun Dome to fit everyone that will come and pay their respects.

Man all of these stories. If you were a member there you know they’re all true. He was a real one. It’s still to this day the best gym/health club I’ve ever been to. It’s easily the best in Louisiana.

He will be missed but his legacy will carry on as he built a true empire in Lafayette. It’s honestly one of the best things about living in Lafayette. People that don’t know just assume “gym” like planet fitness. This place is a community center for Lafayette.
