One of the main intentions of a tarriffs is that it gives incentive to buy from your own country.

Simply put-If you want to flood our market with cheap crap then I’ll tax it heavily and take away your incentive. China is famous for flooding our market with cheap crap produced in their facilities with their cheap labor.

Take crawfish- local farmers try to sell their crawfish at market price but then China comes in with some funky crawfish at half price, pulling the rug out from the local farmers. They either compete or die. Farmers think it’s unfair so they lobby to have tarriffs put on the Chinese product to level the playing field. Consumer now has less incentive to buy the Chinese crawfish and likely to buy local. The problem is that the cost will be higher for us.

Trump is clearly trying to right this trade perversion. He knows that China needs us to buy their crap more than we need their cheap crap. We might want it but we don’t really need it.

The hope is that our consumers will start to seek local alternatives. The challenge will be whether or not we can stomach the price increases long enough to bring about new life to our American business.

Yea but lets look at what your talking about here.

Chinese crawfish are $6.99/lb

US crawfish are $12.99/lb.

Why does US crawfish have to be that high?

Does Buy American mean American companies or made in America?

Driving a Mexican made Ford or GM truck is not…right?

Driving a BMW made in South Carolina is…right?

I do buy American, whenever at all possible. Even though it's higher priced, if the quality is better and it's Made in America, that's what I'm spending my money on.

And I mean real American. Not Ford trucks made in Mexico.

Companies like Wright wrenches, JK boots, Woodpeckers woodworking jigs and squares, Lie-Nielsen hand planes. All expensive but are built to last.

I'm on a personal quest to replace everything in my house with non-Chiner crap.

I'm replacing all of my furniture with stuff built by myself. And using no metal fasteners like screws and evem brad nails, all traditional wood joinery. All mortise and tenon, floating tenon (dowels) and half laps.

I’ve been on a quest the last few years to try and buy more American made everything. Theres surprisingly more out there than we think. And yeah it usually cost more but if I can afford it I’d rather support American businesses.

You might want to look up exactly what we import from China before making that claim. It's a long list, and sure, cheap crap is on that list.

But so are a lot of other things that we definitely need. If we want our factories to run, if we want to be able to keep up with construction demand, if we want our hospitals to have the medical equipment they need, etc.

There are websites that list US-made products of all kinds. You lazy, low-IQ types need to figure search engines.

Almost certainly the relative difference in the cost of the labor to produce the crawfish.

Check out where the engines and transmissions, along with a multitude of other parts, are made and then assembled into a car in SC.

In today's world of internet, it takes only a few minutes of research to find American products.

Supply and demand. The more the demand the more supply the lower the price.

Because they aren’t farmed from pools of human excrement?

Well given the choice between $12.99/lb crawfish tails and crawfish raised on human shite, I choose to not eat crawfish.

Nothing parts faster than a fool and their money.
