Will be looking into getting a small to medium sized ice maker to leave at camp. Anyone have a brand they prefer or brand to stay away from? Thanks

I can only really comment on larger ones but if Hoshizaki makes what you are looking for they seem to be the most reliable of ice makers.

Make sure you place it somewhere it can leak and not damage much. Especially if you are leaving it to run when you are not there.

In my limited experience it is not a matter of if your ice machine will leak gallons of water onto whatever is below it but when and how many times.

Great but pricey. You get what you pay for with ice makers.

Water filtration system on them severely cuts back on service.

NP, I think my buddy wound up with 4 ice makers in one freezer and it makes about 20 pounds per day

We have a Manitowac NEO undercounter. Have it on a wemo switch to turn on before we head to the camp. Its leaked multiple times so the advice of having it outside or in a waterproof location is wise.

If we did it over again I'd get a Hoshizaki full unit and leave it under the camp.

Hoshizaki has a stainless steel ice panel, Manitowac has tin which over time wears out. Buy once cry once

I bought my wife a counter ice maker that makes ice like Sonic's ice. She loves it and it's great with three fingers of whiskey. Makes ice fast, just not a whole lot.

In doors or outdoors?

Heat is a killer for an ice machine.

Same here. Our ice maker went out in the fridge so we've been using a countertop for a couple years. It's not too bad to add water to it since the kids are out of the house.

We have one of these too. I read that they are susceptible to mineral buildup from hard water, so we use distilled water in it from day one. 3 years of no problems so far. I think it's my wife's most prized possession.

I've been contemplating buying one of those. It going to be inside where my dishwasher was.
