Reading the news stories I am seeing that there have been three arrests in the hazing death at Souther University.

quote:

Isaiah Smith, 28, turned himself in to police about 11 a.m.

quote:

On Monday, police arrested Kyle Thurman, 25,

quote:

On March 6, former Southern University student Caleb McCray, 23

All of these guys are older and former students. Is it common in black fraternities to have older non-students involved in day to day fraternity activities?

When I was at LSU, we might have graduated members drop by occasionally before a football game but it would be weird to have them hanging around and involved in pledge activities.

the alums of southern frats and sororities stay heavily involved as compared to LSU frats and sororities that move on after graduation

even the older members of southern frats organize events and congregate together

Those guys are old for being involved in hazing. Maybe not old for approved rituals, but definitely old for brutal hazing activities.

Due to age, they probably all get significant jail time. They also face significant fines for the chapter and participants of $10,000 each. Just not sure if it $10K per event or per person hazed. Guess we will find out soon.

A quirk in the LSU hazing policy is that you can be suspended from school if you allow yourself to be hazed. Not sure if the same at other schools, but the guys getting hazed would be expelled if they were at LSU as well. This is not used for leverage, but some perverse penalty LSU dreamt up to expel fraternity guys. The same rule is not applied to athletes.

they might be in bigger trouble for trying to stage it as a basketball accident at the local park instead of calling 911 immediately so someone could come try and revive him

Yes, once you graduate you become a member of a graduate chapter to continue public/community service. BGLO's are for life. I have seen times where members of the graduate chapter will assist the undergrad chapter with pledging, or sometimes just showing up to pledge events.

Coverup will be bad for anyone going to trial. I expect some plea bargains and messy finger pointing by those involved to be interesting.

Just because you graduate doesn’t mean you want to stop doing gray stuff with your brothers, amirite?

Blacks stay involved in greek life forever

As you can tell by all the 40 year old queens driving C class Mercedes with AKA front plates and dodge chargers with AphiA plates

Black frats have graduate chapters, so they might be a part of that.

It's still fricking stupid, and I was in a black frat.

I hated my chapter. I had nothing in common with them. At all. Besides that, I hate the hazing culture.

It was my fault though. I joined for the wrong reasons.

Unless it's part of some rare legacy ceremony thing, they should not be there at all.

Homecoming was always a big draw for old albums. I was a PoliSci major and freshman year we had a US Senator hanging out after the parade. Great opportunity. Except my drunk degenerate arse had been pounding beers all night.

I was part of the 2nd class of pledges after the house had been poor on probation and most of the upperclassmen were kicked out. They still hung out when the advisors weren't around and we used their residences for shite that broke the probation rules. The reason for it still makes me laugh a bit... Several of the brothers decided after a party to go to a construction site, steal a forklift & other equipment, and take it to the SAE house to wreck shite. Both lions they had out front took the brunt of it. One was completely destroyed and the other one barely looked like a lion.
