Foxes in the Snow. I haven't listened yet and I know the opinions on Isbell or mixed around here, mostly for non music reasons.

Is this his divorce album, new love album or something in-between?

El Gaucho, feel free to sit this one out. We get it. Vaccine, his wife's boyfriend yada yada.

Is he still pissing clean? Lost interest in him a few years ago. Maybe I’ll try again.

Don’t know El Gaucho but if his opinion is being silenced, I’ll step up. Isbell is a weak soy cuck laden with White guilt. Really a poor example of a man from the South. Not to mention a weak, whiny voice.

You have 12k posts on a message board. Know your place son. Ain't no southern man taking to the internet like a child all day.

This one has been growing on me all day. We will see if it is still playing a few weeks from now. Crimson and Clay is really good.

I listened to it this morning. It is a pretty sterile sounding album from an arrangement standpoint. He could have used some mandolin and fiddle to fill out the sound. It’s just him and an a guitar for the most part. It was probably his intention to make a stripped down album but he went a step too far for me. It takes a person with a very good voice to pull that off and he just doesn’t have that.

I dig it. Lyrics are best since Southeastern.

I actually think Something More than Free is his best lyrical album, it’s just doesn’t quite stick the landing on some of the arrangements like Southeastern

This album is definitely good but I agree with the guy who said it’s a little bit too stripped down. I’m gonna enjoy listening to it for the next couple months but I don’t see myself listening to it for the rest of my life like some of his other songs

Meh. It's not his strongest work. 4/10 for me.

His anti Trump songs are getting old. “Mango Mussolini” from the last album was good but “Tangerine Tito” and “Persimmon Pol Pot” on this album aren’t as good

I think you hit all the buzz words man, way to go. Hannity would be so proud.

And your boy Maddow would go apoplectic.

Maddow means nothing to me. But I can live my life without being ate up by politics. You should try it.

I dig this. Some of the picking reminds me of Cat Stevens.

From what I've read this week, his band wasn't involved in this one at all, and that's how he wanted it. You just have to work through some things on your own, and I guess this was his way of doing that. I was also surprised to find out that he fired Jimbo Hart. Knew it wasn't a happy split, but first time I've seen that language used regarding it.

I'm giving the album my first listen on the drive to Texas this morning

Both, apparently:

His fans will claim "outside factors" are the only reason some people don't like him - as if his voice would just naturally charm us all - but how many veterans of the Red Dirt/ alt-country / whatever scene get the kind of national press coverage he does without those outside factors and social media commentary?
