Just heard that Dennis Skains (Cecilia State Champion Head Coach) is leaving Cecilia for a Asst. position at East Ascension. Also, the former Head Coach of Teurlings (Dane Charpentier) left Teurlings for an asst. position at EA earlier this year.

What is going on? Is the money better or just tired of the problems of being a head coach?

Cecilia and Opelousas loses their head coaches. Who will be the favorite in the district next year, now?

That’s a very unfair comment. The guy was there for nearly a decade. Got to the Dome twice and won a State Championship. What more could they ask for?

He’s probably getting a pay raise and definitely a lighter load/less stress.

Biggest thing for many coaches is how much they have to be in the classroom. They’ll take less money and/or less prestigious title to only teach 1-2 classes a day if any.

Bingo! At a lot of big 5A schools they operate more like colleges. A lot of times these guys teach 1, maybe 2, BS classes and are done with football and home by 3:30 p.m.

None of the extra that comes with being HC like coordinating travel, scheduling, annual refurbishment of equipment, booster club meetings, talking to
Media, etc…it’s a lot more than coaching when you’re in charge of the program.

Have you kept up with Cecilia over the years? They’ve been one of the most athletic teams in 4A for about 5 yrs now. Gurantee they’re 500 at best next year. Just like Opelousas they’re losing one of their best senior classes if not the best in school history.

The TCH situation is very politically motivated, like at most private schools.

From what I’ve heard is that Skains is getting a significant raise and not have to deal with the stress of being a HC.
Ascension parish allegedly pays teachers and coaches much more than st Martin parish.
Skains was at Cecilia for 9 years.

The interesting part will be if Sonny takes over as the Cecilia HC. He was the long time HC and AD at TCH before he exited due to drama at the school.
He was the qb coach at Cecilia this past season.

Makes sense. I was wondering about Sonny also. I'm sure he will be offered the position, but I'm not sure he wants to deal with the stress you talk about. Should be an interesting spring.

Unless, Cecilia plays all 5A teams in non-district they will be way over .500 winning percentage. As you've mentioned, Opelousas loses a lot, so who will beat them? Beau Chene, Livonia?

Breaux Bridge will be better, so maybe they will win district, but Cecilia still has some good athletes for at least the next two years. No, not as good as this past year, but good enough to have winning seasons.

EA finally said enough is enough. Too much talent in their district for them to be average. Will they be the first AP public school to make it to the dome?

This is just a stupid comment. You’re probably one of those guys that think 4 and 5 stars automatically make a player good.

LMAO.

Yeah man, generally 4&5 star high school players are pretty good at the high school level. That’s generally how they get 4&5 star ratings.

Yeah you’re right, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Big Ben, Pat Mahomes, Baker Mayfeild, Joe Burrow Justin Jefferson, Cooper Kupp, Mike Evans, Devante Adams, Patrick Willis, Khalil Mack, Max Crosby, TJ Watt, Travis Kelce, George Kittle, the list goes on and on. All sucked in high school because they weren’t 4 or 5 stars.

I Never said that. You insinuated 4-5 star high school players aren’t necessarily good at the high school level. Thats just incorrect.
You also said that a guy who stayed at a school for a decade is leaving because all the talent left. Maybe the guy wanted a change of scenery and a break from the stress of being a head coach.

And an extra 17K in his bank account on top of less stress.

For the record, the cupboard isn't bare in Cecilia. Yes, they did lose some dynamic talent but they will return a solid core group with Braylon Calais leading the way.

Never said they aren’t good. Many players get overhyped whether it’s the league they play in or are just 7 on 7 camp warriors. There’s definitely more to it than he wants to be stress free and richer. Once you win that first one it becomes an addiction.

It sure wasn't for Orgeron. Saban, yes.

I'm not really surprised he left. I just thought he would be taking the Teurlings job, not an Asst. position. However, if he is getting that much more money with less responsibities that makes sense.

I appreciate what he has done at Cecilia.
