Speaking of Federal Workers, let’s talk about Congressional and Senate pay cuts…

Seems to me if we are that far in debt perhaps all elected officials should receive $0 pay and the number of staffers be reduced by 60%. No need blowing coin on travel from district to DC on a weekly basis, let’s cut that down to once every 2 months as well. Zoom and FaceTime meetings for all. Addendum: no housing allowance as well, you win your seat and pay for your own housing. I hear the metro runs from WV if prices in the district are too high

Or require them to earn only their congressional salary. Any additional income goes towards the national debt.

No. Congress/senate should be paid much much more. Like $500k or $1million
However, this would have to coincide with ironclad anti corruption rules

I think I heard the late Jackie Mason say the reason why America will never have a Jew as POTUS is because he would put Congress on commission only compensation. No surplus, no pay.

If we expect it to be a full time job, they need a salary. Otherwise you'll get only wealthy people in office.
ETA: I realize most of them are wealthy now, but that is a separate issue that does need to be fixed.

All this hype and hate directed to federal workers, but Congress created all of this.
Why are we letting Congress lawmakers off the hook. All that they have done is spend and create programs, and manufacture all types of hot-button issues to detract from the real issues- our country is bankrupt. It is Congress that creates this mess!!

If this were the case, I'd run for office.

I'd prefer a Louisiana state law that taxed any speaking, book deals, or anything else gained by their status at 60% for the state. Takes affect for any thing that happens while in office and the 2 or 4 years following leaving office. The state elects their representation. The money should go back to the state.
It shouldn't be forever, but it should at least have an affect while they hold name brand recognition due to Louisianan's electing them.

What politicians from Louisiana are writing books?

"What politicians from Louisiana are writing books?"
Better question, What politicians from any state are reading books?

Likely none at the moment, but you have a speaker of the house and a majority leader both from Louisiana. Every year you have new politicians at the state level. Some of these people collect speaking fees. If you benefit from an election, you should be repaying the people of the state with the majority of what you collect.
I also agree the pay should be much higher, but needs to be coupled with term limits and/or age limits. If the pay was decent, maybe you get better people running. Same goes for BR mayor. It's a shite job with shite pay so you get shite talent. Hard to attract the best and brightest when you don't get paid anything for your service.

Congress and Senate should actually make significantly more than they do now. They don’t make enough to raise a family the way someone in the public spotlight needs to.
The Singapore model is much better, they pay them very high salaries but have extremely strict anti corruption laws.
It would be a net win if our politicians actually had our interests and not their personal side gains to worry about.

The solution, ironically, would be to increase their salaries 5-10x, but with fiscal policy requisites, while concomitantly criminalizing Congressional insider trading, collusive lobbying, etc.

Most have to maintain 2 residences so they need to be paid decently. They are not all Nancy Pelosi rich. We want regular citizens to be able to run.
