Did they sell those orange sherbet drink things? I don’t know why my brain is making that connection.
Maybe that was Foxy’s.

You weren't a local if you didn't call it the Ballbanger.

Spent many many hours there ..My dad used to play tournaments there (racquetball and handball) when our home club at the time was Baton Rouge Athletic Club (Airline and Greenwell Springs)...then we eventually joined Wallbanger and went to all 4 clubs.... The Old Hammond location originally had the entrance up the stairs and only players downstairs...by the courts...and the BAR... drinking and smoking allowed..lol

Belonged to the one on Perkins Rd when I was a student at LSU in the early 90's.

Or the front desk/pro bar at Foxies that used to be an actual bar in the 70’s because it was common to drink while working out or playing racketball.

My sister (no pics) joined to lose some weight. Caught the racquetball fever and got pretty good, well for her anyway. Came to visit and we played there several times. I was in the Air Force overseas and learned the game, thought it was kinda boring, but did play. Anyway, we head on over to play, you had to reserve a court or get a paddle time, I guess. She ran me around that court like I was a fart in the bathtub. Never won a game against her, so I quit the stupid sport.

Btw, this sure seems to be happening with pickleball now.

Iwas a member played 5 times a week. Hated to see it die out. Great exercise, competitive. Loved the ladder play.
And somehow this generation fell into pickle ball!

Spent so much time at those during the 80s. Hammond Hwy was the worst one, pool was terrible. Monterey and Jefferson/Tiger Bend were where it was at. There are so many 80s pop songs that to me and my sisters are "Wallbanger songs" because WFMF or Z98 or whichever station they had on there would play them multiple times an hour when they were hot, it seems.
