Texas and Florida vie for potential NASA HQ

Their DC lease ends in 2028. Both have major roles in space exploration. And President Trump wants to move HQs out of the DC area.
But before you think it has to be one of them, Huntsville AL would like a word. And maybe Mississippi might make a pitch (the Stennis Space Center has a lot of vacant land).

Johnson and Kennedy should be the only options.

No love for Michoud? East NOLA has its charm.

Has NASA’s HQ ever been in DC? I thought it’s always been in Houston.

HQ is in DC. Houston is where Mission Control is.

Oh, well move it I guess.
My vote would be Florida. The Houston location has never made any practical sense. It was only put there in the first place because LBJ wanted it in his home state and as VP he was in charge of America’s space program at the time.

Most think it’s Houston, and the history and brainpower is there. Should make it the leader. Then there’s the proximity to Musks south tx location.
I’m sure Donald’s will get thrown into fight for Florida to give him a “win”.

Great minds and all
Was just adding that to my post as I pressed submit to quickly.

Yup.
From my understanding, the blue collar arm for NASA is in Florida, the research and scientific is in Alabama, and the Administration and management is in Texas.
I think it would make sense to move the HQ to Texas, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is moved near a Space Force base.

If you have ever been to Houston you would understand why a goal would be to put elsewhere

Cape Canaveral makes by far the most sense. Its affordable and KSC desperately needs some new blood in it. It’s remarkably neglected for the most part. There hasn’t been any substantial investment since the shuttle program back in the 1970’s. I’ve been on the property a few times and actually got to roam around inside a few of the buildings. It’s shocking how much it needs new investment.
I got to sit in the chairs that astronauts use while they’re being outfitted in their space suits for launch. It has never been changed. It’s like a time capsule back to the golden area of space flight.
There’s a room that has several of the space suits that were worn by the Apollo astronauts. They preserved them as they were. Some covered in space dust from the Moon. It’s amazing to see.

After watching Bannon this morning re the Texas State Congress being led by RINOs and Dems...Trump may have some work to do down there before dumping big bucks.

What we should really do is merge NASA and NOAA. They can still conduct research and science with contracted support for rockets and airplanes from the private sector.

Texas has Space X, it just makes sense to be there.

I know they tried at one point to have a presence near Corpus but got push back from the local government. For now, I think they're exclusively in Cameron County right next to the Mexican border. Since theyre surrounded by marshes, public beaches, and a park, there is no more space to grow.
Something tells me that Elon will eventually push to make his starbase operations binational. Mexico has a ton of open space right across the border. And given the fact that he's an H1B Visa enthusiast, I'm pretty sure he would love to have cheaper Mexican engineers working right across the river.

I’d like to throw Shreveport’s hat in the ring.
