President Donald Trump said Friday that he would pardon baseball great Pete Rose and criticized Major League Baseball for barring the all-time hit champion from the sport's Hall of Fame for gambling.
Rose, who died last year at 83, was banned from baseball for life. He admitted in 2004 that he had bet on games, though never against his own team. Commissioner Rob Manfred in 2015 rejected Rose's bid for reinstatement.
"Over the next few weeks I will be signing a complete pardon of Pete Rose, who shouldn't have been gambling on baseball, but only bet on his team winning," Trump posted on Truth Social. "He never betted against himself, or the other team. He had the most hits, by far, in baseball history, and won more games than anyone in sports history."

This makes it seem like he was charged with crimes for betting on baseball, but he wasn't. He was charged with tax evasion

The vast majority of baseball sportswriters are extreme leftists soyboys, if anything this will make them more adamant to not let Rose in.
Another organization really should to start their own "people's" hall of fame liberated from that deranged clique of self important trash.

Why the hell didn't he do it his first term when Pete was alive?

Rose never charged of any crime for gambling, WTF is this
Rose was charged with a real crime, called tax evasion and lied about it for years.
I think he only spent a few months in prison.

That's strange is he appointing himself baseball commissioner or something?

Oh, he wants to be in charge of everything, if you haven't noticed yet.

Or, he’s using his power to pardon someone convicted of tax fraud, which is a federal crime.

This alleged pardon will have nothing to do with his being banned from the Hall of Fame
He will never be admitted into the Hall of Fame nor should he be

Pete was alive when Trump was in office the first time.
Strange timing.

Meanwhile, the most corrupt commissioner in pro sports laments regret for not doing something more about the most notorious and systemic cheating scandal, by the Houston Astros, in the history of baseball.
MLB has always been famous for its bouts of selective integrity.

Correct. It wasn't just that he gambled, it was that repeatedly lied about and changed his story as he saw fit. So he maintained he did not bet against his team but he also maintained he did not bet on baseball then not in any games he played in for 15 years after the allegations came out until he admitted it in his memoirs. SO would it shock anyone if he bet against is team at some point?
Also worthy of note is that On Aug. 24, 1989, Rose officially signed an agreement with Commissioner Bart Giamatti declaring him permanently ineligible from baseball. In exchange, there was no formal declaration made whether Rose bet on baseball.
I would understand if they want to put Rose in the HOF but I still contend that before they do that they need to put Shoeless Joe Jackson in.

If he bet on his team some games and not others, then it's basically betting against his team.
Also pardon him for what, exactly?
