Specifics of McMahon hate

Look, I get it…I wish my tigers had a better MBB program. We don’t currently. I enjoyed being in school when we went to the Final 4, so I’m somewhat spoiled.
That said, is all the hate with MM a product of just wanting to win, or do any of the haters have specific notes on what he is lacking in coaching chops? Not saying anyone is wrong, but I’m not BB competent enough to see the specific deficiencies in his coaching.
Where is he lacking? If it’s recruiting, maybe NIL is an actual beef and issue we could point to. If he’s just an awful coach, tell me how specifically…I honestly do not give a shart about BB enough to know the details, but I hope that changes in the future with the smartest board in all of college sports genius insight.
What would you do better if you were Matt McMahon?

There’s no McMahon hate, the record is the record and it’s worse than anything we’ve witnessed at LSU in over 50 years. The vitriol in discussion stems from the dishonesty of his cult who aren’t even really basketball fans but hate the basketball fans.

….so can’t win, got it. But does anyone think they know why?

Teams are undisciplined, very poor with the basics and he doesn’t adjust.

Yes, I hear you…but specifically how?
“Can’t teach fundamentals..” What are they? Which ones?
“Can’t score.” Which ways could he be improving that?
Etc…
What is he doing wrong and why haven’t any of you talked about it with him at this point?

What are you trying to prove here? The teams record is the teams record, regardless of whether anyone on a message board can correctly dissect the teams struggles

Instead of thinking you’re so witty by starting a thread like this, why don’t you just announce to the board that you’re perfectly happy with mediocrity because that’s all you expect out of your own life?

I do not hate the guy at all. From the outside looking in, it seems like he’s a very nice guy and has a very kind family.
From a basketball perspective:
1. He has no idea how to properly handle rotations/proper substitutions. There have been many times in his 3 years here that the dude has single handedly destroyed momentum by bringing in head scratching lineups.
2. When he was hired, he was touted as an X’s and O’s guru. There have been a few times this season where I have noticed plays drawn up that have worked in big situations. One that comes to my mind quickly is the play he drew up for V. Miller early in the season against UCF for a huge dunk in overtime. Way too often, they pass the ball around the perimeter and launch up awful shots.
3. I’m not one who is all about the “nice guy” calm demeanor. It’s different when you are winning games and everything is going well. The announcer against Georgia talked about how quiet and calm McMahon was at practice. This is clearly not a time for smiles and high fives. Show some life.
I will always root for LSU to win, and hope that he can turn it around. I just do not think he is cut out for major conference basketball.
ETA: Now you tell all of us what he is doing well.

His teams consistently have had offensive droughts in games-perplexing

For me, it's because he's just not a good coach. I don't hate the man, I hate that he's our HC.
Watch any of his offensive sets and I think you'll see why he's not a good coach. That's not to mention the turnovers, poor rebounding, etc etc.
He's just not a good coach and anyone trying to paint it otherwise is a damn fool - especially our AD for wanting to give him more money for a shitty product.

Coaches get paid for results, not for being a nice guy and owning the world record for longest time with arms crossed.

Let's back them in a corner and prove they don't know what they're talking about. How cute.
This is how I judge a coach, and it's ONE BILLION PERCENT foolproof.
What is his number in the W column.
What is his number in the L column.
I've been avidly watching college basketball since 1977, and played it through HS. I'm by no means an expert.
But I can tell you with FULL CONFIDENCE that Wade was getting the job done and this jackass IS NOT getting the job done.
We should have weathered the storm with Wade, and given the NCAA the middle finger. Plenty of schools have done this. But it would require that our administration have balls, and it's obvious they don't.

And imagine that. You get multiple actual answers, and you’re silent.

Nobody hates McMahon he’s just not good. Calling criticism hate is idiotic
Posted on 2/22/25 at 3:43 pm to drizztiger
He just gave himself away. His take is if you don’t have intimate access to McMahon you can’t know what’s wrong with the team. Thats the trick box he’s building.
