Do you think fans directly paying athletes is a good concept?

We looking at our KOS’ twitter and there’s a ROY app link. NIL app that lets you directly, 100% of your payment, go to the athlete.

This to me is a bit strange…fans are going to take this too far. They are already too emotionally invested in college kids, but holy shite…now I think it’s going to get turbo weird. Wonder if the fan gets to attach a message.

It's already gone way too far. The concept of NIL is great and was long overdue, but with no way to regulate it, here's where we are.

So as far as the ROY accounts that a lot of athletes have started, it's no worse than anything else out there.

I just see the barrier between the fan and athlete as something that needs to exist. Shouldn’t have some 50 yr old fan paying a kid then losing their mind if they don’t perform as expected. Hopefully there would be no contact, but it’s not hard to imagine.

So it’s like an onlyfans except for sports fans & not porn you’re paying for content

I haven’t looked that deep into it, but I don’t see a problem with it. Theres not really a tampering issue with outside fans & it’s a way to support your favorite players.

Ehh actually it seems more like an app based NIL collective - not that innovative. You pay x amount to your school & it is dispersed to all the players who sign up for the app. I’m not sure I can pay Aeron Burrell directly

It’s pathetic by the players. Plain and simple. I am losing complete interest in college sports because of all the ridiculous selfishness across the board.

Exactly, it's the OF for athletes. I actually like the concept in the sense that the money goes directly to the athlete you want it to go to as opposed to a collective where it can be used at their discretion.

On Roy, you can show your support by making a payment tied to the school you want the athlete to attend.

This sounds like a collective. It seems like it would be a cool idea if you could support players directly. I’m not sure I’d personally be giving my money to a player who is already making more money than me, but some people might

I just think it should be run by the school or something. A fan should expect no level of contact with a player…not that this provides it…but it seems a bit blurry how it won’t.

Well, you will be limited to High School athletics I guess . . . or do they have NIL now?

That’s what I envision. A girl soccer player comes home with a $1000 purse and the dad asks where TF did you get that…oh some man pays me through this NIL app called ROY. The frick he does…

Or a WR comes out of dinner to find his car all beat up because some enraged fan is so pissed that he donated thousands of dollars and you dropped the game winning catch. Guess that could have always happened…but this increases the odds since that fan is bragging to his friends about supporting you and ‘his guy’ let down the fan base.

IDK

It is ridiculous just like the schools asking fans to pay into the collectives

Any grown man who pays a teenager for playing football is insecure as hell

How are you going to get your money back if the player transfers. The player ain't giving it back.

Yea, and over what period of time? The app wouldn’t insure that $ value…or they’d be crazy to with all of the modern transfers.

The idea of getting your money back if a player transfers is... interesting.

Or I could stop wasting any money on athletes that bring nothing of actual value to the world with their sport, and put that money into my family or things like medical research, helping others get by, actual charitable donations instead of calling money donated to an athletic department, NIL collective or the like as "charity".

The whole system has become a joke, and should be dismantled at this point.

It was only a matter of time before athletes basically started their own version of onlyfans.

Just enjoy the ensuing shitshow, it doesn’t matter what you think of it as a concept, the law says they can do it.

That's pretty much my stance on it. If you think it's stupid, or selfish, or weird, or any other adjective then don't give them money. But if athletes know that there are people willing to just give them money for no other reason than being an athlete at their favorite school, then why not capitalize on it?

Personally, I'm not sending them anything, but good luck to them.
