Who did Purdue-FW replace on the schedule?

JJ referred to a team canceling late after the schedule was pretty much set but would not name them. Said they had a coaching change and the new coach asked out of the weekend which left him scrambling to find replacement
Just wondering who it might've been?

Well it definitely wasn't Texas or South Carolina
Posted on 2/20/25 at 6:33 pm to tzimme4
Wouldn’t have been Nicholls or UNO either. Or A&M
I sincerely doubt it would have been any of the swac schools.

I vote Long Beach State

Yeah some of those are pretty safe to eliminate I thought it could have been Washington w Kelly leaving but he made it sound like he was a 1st year coach and Eddie has HC experience at Utah Valley.

They almost always play at home to open the season. And they’re coached by the guy that took over Nevada from Jay. I doubt they were the team but I also doubt Bruce would bitch out.

I know Missouri State has a first year HC, but he’s been on staff there a while and knew for at least a couple years he was taking over. I don’t think they’d have scheduled us in the first place.
But I would have liked to have Caden Bogenpohl see Alex Box for when he inevitably hits the portal after this year.

I was thinking Mizz State. They played ULM to open last year and then went to USM the following week. I think it was probably a cold weather team, seems to be the MO.
Could probably safely strike:
all SWAC teams
all SEC teams
any teams from the South/in-state
Manhattan (Miss St.)
Washington (Eddie Smith)
Ohio St. (Arizona St; vet coach)
Minnesota (Houston; vet coach)
Indiana St (vet coach)

Probably a school from above the Mason Dixon line. Usually the northern teams come down and play teams from the south the first few weekends of the season.
Posted on 2/20/25 at 7:07 pm to Le Tenia
Likely someone from up north like Dayton or Minnesota
New coach says he doesn’t want to start with Ls at LSU, but another factor may be the Portal. Now, if you think you have some solid players then you don’t want to show them off in Baton Rouge if you don’t have to and risk them getting plucked.
Jay’s proven to take portal players he’s directly played against and had the chance to see in person.

I am almost 100% sure VCU was on the schedule to start the season some time ago...

That makes some sense. Their coach is only 29 years old too.

I just picked a name off the list that is decently recognizable in NCAA baseball. It put zero effort into it.

Bellarmine lines up with our usual non-conference strength of schedule.

Is Omaha supposed to be an upgrade in talent to PFW ?

Kind of. Based on Jay's previous comments, I don't think the opening weekend is the only one that changed.
If Omaha was already on the schedule, I don't think Bellarmine would have been. If there was someone on the schedule better than Omaha for week 2, I could see Bellarmine on the schedule.
I don't think he likes to have nothing but complete butt asses on the schedule. In the past some of the teams that by name look bad were at least coming off regional appearances.

A team like VCU would certainly fit that bill.

LSU will play a game in Biloxi next season
