A raucous crowd of 12,401 packed the PMAC, cheering John Brady and the Fighting Tigers to an improbable upset of the defending national champion Florida Gators. Scary Terry Martin led all scorers with 18, followed closely by Garrett Temple with 17. LSU shut down the Gators trademark three point shot, holding them to 2 for 17 from beyond the arc. Magnum Rolle gave Joakim Noah hell all game long, while Tasmin Mitchell, Darnell Lazare, and Dameon Mason played like warriors in the absence of Glen “Big Baby” Davis. The legendary Ben Voogd contributed 2 points in 4 solid minutes, running the point with a lunch pail mentality. Al Horford led Florida in scoring with 13, followed by Corey Brewer’s 11. Taurean Green was ice cold for the Gators, going 1 for 7 from the field and missing all three of his three pointers attempted. The Gators would go on to win a second straight national championship, but for 40 minutes on a Saturday afternoon, it was all about the Fighting Tigers of LSU.

I was in high school and they let me in with the worst lsu student Id pass. The ticket booth was very nice allowing me to pass (literally no chance at passing lmao) and great experience. Also when they had the student section stretch across the court instead of behind the goals.

So glad Brady is back around LSU and I owe him an apology for ever wanting him fired back in the day

That 2007 team had so much potential. They had some huge wins but would really play down to inferior teams. It was maddening.

We have close family friends that were tied in with the program at the time and they said Brady was really hands off after the Final 4. It’s a shame but given the last 15 years of hell post Brady I would kill to have a nasty lineup every three years.

That year was a microcosm of the John Brady era. Any given year under Brady LSU could win the league or finish last. That year alone LSU blows UConn out at home...then 3 days later loses to Alabama (who would finish 5th in the West)

Every time it looked like Brady was about to be canned...he'd have a good season. Then when it looked like he had the program rolling....he'd fall off a cliff.

This. people can say what they want but the Brady era had as many ups and downs as legit possible.

That was a weird time in lsu athletics where coaches could admit they took off after winning. Maineri and miles both admitted to slacking off after their championships. Know for a fact Brady made himself comfortable after the Final 4 run

To my knowledge I don’t think I’ve seen that at any other university, probably our laid back culture

I was there. Weird season but at least that game was good. Depressing this is if we would have just beaten UCLA in the semifinal that could have been the result of the natty the year prior.

Brady was a horse's arse who bristled at any and every criticism lobbed his way. I will always remember the night in 2004 where his team scored TEN goddamn points, TEN!, in the first half of a game vs. Ole Miss. LSU played much better in the second half and came back to win the game. Brady grandstanded in the press conference like he was the greatest HC in the world.

After reaching the Final Four in 2006 Brady anointed himself with the gravitas to basically dictate absurd terms to LSU and Bertman. He immediately tried to leverage the open NC State job to get a huge raise from LSU. In response, Bertman called his bluff and told Brady he should go to NC State

quote:

"If North Carolina State offers him $2 million, I think John should interview there because he's not going to get $2 million here," Bertman said Wednesday afternoon. "That would be outrageous. Nobody in the SEC makes $2 million."

Not surprisingly, NC State wasn't going to pay Brady $2M either. So he graced LSU with the honor of staying put, sulking that LSU didn't recognize his greatness. His team tanked the next year. Then injuries derailed the following season. Bertman canned him in the middle of that season leaving Brady sobbing at the farewell press conference. He was legitimately stunned LSU had the audacity to fire him. He, like Orgeron, felt that because they reached the top of their professions they were HOF coaches who could do and say whatever they wanted, and demand everyone listened to them. Their hubris quickly bit them in the arse.

The fact that John Brady is part of the LSU broadcast team and very supportive of the program is in the category of "Things I would have never dreamed of happening" after his departure.

If I remember correctly, baseball played right before - that game ended and we walked across the street from the old Box. Crowd was electric. That was a good day.

Yea, but did we get free chicken fingers? It's the little things that don't show up in the box score.

That pic of Noah and Tasmin - that would be a flagrant one today.
