I have a couple 500s and they work great for what they are. Nothing wrong with a cheap pump that won’t hurt your feelings if it gets a little rust on it. To that point, not sure why anyone would take the time to refinish one. That’s what spraypaint is for.

I got my first 500 this year and hate myself for not buying one a decade ago. I love the damned thing.

Not a Mossberg but I did refinish a handful of old shotguns. I found that Brownell’s Oxpho-Blue worked well with 0000 steel wool between several applications. Also, use a heat gun to heat the metal during applications and it works better.

Although many like them, I've done well by always staying away from Mossberg shotguns, Taurus semi-auto pistols, and Chevy trucks.

(just joking on the Chevy thing )

Only gun I’ve ever traded or sold is a 500 and it was pure dog shite. I still have the first shotgun I ever bought and it’s a 835 ulti mag and bought it when I was 16.

I got mine probably 25 years ago, spray painted it camo, and it's killed a lot of ducks and poule d'eau. It's been dropped overboard, used as a paddle, etc and keeps ticking.

By what metric? I've never heard anybody mascarading one as nice, but they are light reliable and affordable.

Right now, I'm liking it better than the 870. At least you can still get parts for it.

Grab an 870 wingmaster and a model 500 both from the 70’s to early 90’s and tell me which one is a nicer gun.

The safety fell off my 500 and it had extractor issues. Last Remington I bought was a stainless CDL in .257 Weatherby and it’s about 15 years old. Never could get that pos to group well after buying about $300 worth of ammo so not really fond of the newer Remingtons.

Well I have an old wingmaster and a new 590 and while the wingmaster is definitely nicer, the 590 is plenty servicable so far.

That’s no comparison but I can’t run down to academy and get a 70s wingmaster from before they went to absolute shite, just like I can’t go grab a mid-70s model 700. Remains to be seen if they know what they’re doing post bankruptcy or plan to just turn out the same overpriced junk.

In the year of our lord 2025 if I want a beater shotgun for $300 that I can leave in a sxs or boat and still have every expectation it will work, that’s a Mossberg 500.

Overwhelming majority of people in Turkey are Muslim.

So…

Maybe you’re thinking of Hungary?

The design lends itself to loose and low cost manufacturing. Nothing outside of the trigger group really needs to fit well at all and the reciever is aluminum. An 870 built like a 70's 870 was built would probably cost $1,500 now. You can see it in the price of the new marlins. Used to be cheap at Walmart, now it's an expensive artifact.

Similar to the marlins, brownings etc of old. The days of reasonably priced hand fitted all steel and walnut shotguns and rifles are mostly behind us. People want many guns now instead of one gun for everything.

Turks speak Turkish not Arabic…and Turks don’t go around strapping bombs to their bodies shouting God is Great in Arabic or Turkish. Totally the opposite; the Turks as a whole hate ISIS, Al Qaeda and other Islamic extremists.

How in the heck do you get Christian Hungary - the one European country standing against Islamism - out of any of this conversation?

Slow your roll dude.

Allahu Akbar is a universal greeting for Muslims. Besides that, the arabic language is a language used in Turkey. It isn’t the official language but it is spoken.

Besides that:

NY Post article

quote:

Since 2012, the Turkish intelligence service, MIT, under Erdogan’s direction, has been providing resources and material assistance to ISIS, while Turkish Customs officials turned a blind eye to ISIS recruits flowing across Turkey’s borders into Syria and Iraq.
