If only there was a Union in Europe, a multi-country organization that could provide for the well being and safety of its members, that would accept Ukraine without involving NATO members from other continents, that would be great. Wouldn’t that solve all the problems? Couldn't Germany, Austria, Poland, France etc. fast track that?

So they would have a military force assigned to NATO and one to the EU?

If Europe desires a formal alliance with Ukraine, as they appear to within NATO, for deterrence, they have the means to do that. How is that different from NATO membership? Except US involvement?

EU needs Russia more than the need Ukraine. That would be dumb on the EU’s part but I don’t put it past them. They always seem to do stuff that’s not in their best interest.

The EU does not have a military component to it. The EU uses NATO for its military alliance. Some EU countries have talked about adding a military component to the EU for almost a decade now but those talks have come to nothing just like the EU's promises to Ukraine.

The EU isn't a military alliance requiring other members to come to the defense of members that are attacked.

We're talking about European countries that might want to support Ukraine while the US does not. This is different from the charter and purpose of NATO. You are saying it is impossible for Europe to do anything because they are linked inseparably from NATO and we are the big gun in NATO. But we are talking about a case where the interests of free Europe are different from the US. Remember the recent Trump comment about a big ocean.

Mark my word, if Trump continues with his volatile shite, his SOS will resign.

Are you willing to die in Ukraine to stick it to Putin?

Are you willing to send your son/grandson to die in Ukraine to stick it to Putin?

Why not?

No I am saying that the EU uses NATO for its security. The EU could be proactive and organize a collective defense force consisting of forces from all of the EU nations but it has not and likely will not in the near future because the EU is a giant clusterf**k of an organization.

Can Ukraine absorb the rush of Brits, Germans, and French migrating from their failing nations?

They've gotten a large chunk of their defense paid for with other people's money for decades.

They've been smart.

We're the suckers.

Depends on how you look at it. Is putting your country's defense into the hands of another country as polarized as the US that switches every 4 years really that good of a strategy? It can only be a smart decision until that strong country decides to look out for its own interests.

What do you think started all of this in 2013?

It wasn't NATO membership for Ukraine
