Can someone explain travel ball to me

We seem to have more kids than ever playing baseball. Instead of having Braxton play all the local teams, it makes more sense to have him blow his arm out traveling across the state and sometimes country to pitch 20-40 innings every weekend instead? Seems more often than not you are gonna end up with an injured kid who hates baseball instead of some MLB prospect.

People are delusional and want to live vicariously through their children to make up for the dreams that never panned out in their lives. They project that onto their children believing that they have the next Derek Jeter on their hands.

You are going to get the same old tired sayings from the same group of posters who think they are being cool on an internet message board.
Rec ball is pretty much dead just about every where. Low level travel ball (which is what majority of kids play) is just the replacement for rec ball. It's little to no travel, and it's not as expensive as people will try to make you believe if you are on a team like that. 99% of parents aren't putting their kids in travel ball with MLB dreams.
It's simply the only place to play to get better at the game right now in most places.

Having kids focus on one sport is a bigger issue.
See it a lot now where parents are having young kids focus on one sport year round. It’s really stupid, imo.

It used to mean something. Now it's just glorified park ball.

Play local only. For many reasons. One I find most important is the relationship building with local kids and coaches. My son would run into other players at a park, chum it up, and then the chit talking begins. Not disrespectful but competitive. It’s cool to watch.

You don’t understand baw. Jaylen is going to the bigs baw and this is the only way baw. Also, if Jaylen doesn’t play travel ball he will certainly get addicted to video games, become obese, and turn to a life of crime. Just cut the $2k check baw.

What really happens. They end up getting some moderately attractive but stupid girl pregnant in order to escape from the pressure applied by the parents and it goes downhill from there.

There you go. He just checked off most of the boxes in one post.

I would argue that the large majority of dads are blue collar.

Damn which ones did I miss? Thought I got them all.

Its a battle between being very expensive and time consuming and wanting your kid to have memories like (maybe) you had. Sport accomplishment memories are very strong. I'm old and went to a reunion a few months ago. Saw a guy that just all laughs and smiles when he recalled a td pass he threw to me in the sixth grade. a great memory.

What does that have to do with what the other poster said ?

My son is in rec ball here in BR, and 7/10 kids at his school play on tournament teams. Most do not travel but play in tournaments in BR, Ascension, LP, and Port Allen.
The thing I dislike about the dissolution of rec ball is that teams are hand picked versus randomly assigned. This means if a kid decides at 8 or 10 he wants to play baseball, he’s basically SOL on getting on a team unless he’s a stud athlete naturally.
The majority of kids do not play travel ball, but I will say a lot of parents on tournament ball teams suck

Couldn’t disagree more with:
My experiences are they may not be dreaming of the MLB but they are just as delusional in their thoughts that their sons/daughters are going to be playing college someday bc they played in on the best low-level local team and won a bunch of meaningless rings at the Super Regional Fire Cracker tournament.
While it maybe not the $Mils that the OT baller BAWs would have you believe just the craziness that on a low level team you’ve paid say in the $hundreds of dollars to be on a team. Your team has then cost shares an additional $hundreds of dollars to be in a tournament at your local municipality owned ball field and then you are dropping tens of dollars just to enter is asinine.
No doubt rec ball has fallen off and it has less to do with travel being the only place to get reps and every bit of more to do with little Braxton is “better than rec ball” and if he’s going to play in college (again just as insane at less than 14 as MLB dreams) he needs to be playing travel ball.
Make Rec Ball Great again and let parents have their weekends back!

My favorite ones are the parents who push it, spend 80k over the course of 7-8 years and claim it’s for college. Then their son goes to some super low level college ball, plays a year, and then transfers to be a student at the state university and finally realizes it wasn’t in the cards.

Spot on. Truck nuts, fake tits, arrogant shits for kids.
The next mental health crisis in the making.

100% this. Some dbag dad out there will be eyeing his 2-3 open sports and have a tryout.
It’s insane.
