15 year old metal prefab carport with steel support. What would you expect the depreciation to be on this?

Insurance depreciating it at 75%. Absolutely nothing was wrong with it prior to storm damage. 20 year life span seems pretty short. Am I getting screwed or does this sound about right?

Metal prefab carports only have a 20-25 year lifespan.

They can losat longer than that, but have little actual cash value at 20 years.

I have a nice 48x52ish shop. Bathroom, climate controlled office, concrete, internet, separate meter, loft, etc. 30 years old. Best thing I own.

Got a property appraisal done, guy said it was worth about $10k. I told him he was high, you couldnt DIY the roof for that much. He said yea, it'd cost you $150k to pay someone to build that now but it's a shop and it's old and depreciation is ridiculous on those.

So based on that, I'd say you pronanly owe the insurance company $1k because a tree fell on yours.

Yeah things like that have value to you, because you use them. But actual cash value is miniscule.

What type policy do you have. If you have RCV policy, you will get the depreciated portion back once the carport is replaced. If ACV the adjuster could have put less depreciation on it to help you out some.
