Anybody remember the BC Eagles point shaving scandal?

Rewatched a 30 for 30 tonight. It’s almost comical how it unfolded. The mob guys get one player involved, and are almost surprised that wasn’t enough to manipulate the score. You have a golden boy (Jim Sweeney) who claims that money was basically shoved into his chest and he was acting under duress. Bonus, Sweeney was roommates with NFL talking head Mike Mayock.
Coach Tom Davis maintains a great reputation and someone has distanced himself appropriately from any mention of this, except that Sweeney was too pissed at Davis to talk to him when this went down.
Fun fact: BC assistant coach Kevin Mackey landed a gig at Cleveland State and took the Vikings to the Sweet 16. They knocked off Indiana in round 1, finally losing to David Robinson’s Navy squad. Four years later, Mackey was in a crack house using cocaine, drinking, and hanging with hookers. The cops were tipped off and busted him after he left.
Good stuff…

a few years ago the backup QB at Vanderbilt claims to have been offered cash to fix the Vandy/Alabama game.
the dude threw something like a dozen passes in his entire football career, but alleges the mob wanted him to fix games

Doctor Tom Davis, a gentleman and a scholar, and a tremendous coach who could not recruit to save his life.

I remember this from when I was a little kid. It was all over the Pittsburgh news since the guys who plotted the scheme were small timers from there.
One of the more interesting little tidbits that the locals talk about was that these guys were connected in some way to Sonny Vaccaro. The guy who got Jordan to sign with Nike. Matt Damon played him in "Air". Vaccaro was connected to the Pittsburgh basketball scene and founded the first national high school basketball all star game there, the Dapper Dan before he moved into promotions and got hooked in with the shoe companies. Vaccaro was also connected to the O'bannon vs. NCAA case that brought us NIL. It's all old mafia connects.

So he hired Bruce Pearl as his assistant to pay recruits.

Bruce Pearl has always been bad with his cheating and made Iowa quit doin it, and Iowa suffered and has since.
Dr. Tom inherited a national powerhouse that was loaded with McDonalds AAs recruited by a man who knew how to not get caught, George Raveling—this after Lute Olsen grew tired of the Iowa fishbowl. Dr. Tom was a kind man who followed greatness with mediocrity.

Watched it a few years ago. Very well done documentary. Surprised more of these haven’t come to light. There have been a few over the years that made the news and there have to be more where no one got caught.
I’d love to see one on the Tulane scandal that essentially shut down the program for a few years.

It's amazing how the movie basically glosses over the scandal (the book Wiseguy goes into detail).

As the book detailed, Henry Hill forgot to even mention that scam was going on until he was asked why they kept flying to Boston.
His handler wasn’t happy because he was a BC grad who had attended some of the games in question.

we have /had scandals going on now, and shite quickly goes away. Anyone who thinks Temple was the only team cheating, ur dumber than a turd i dropped last night.
Also, the FBI at the time of Temple, mentioned there were other teams being looked at.

You’re the second poster to allude to point shaving at UNO… is there something going on there that we haven’t heard much about?
