those with finance degrees or those with business degrees? I can search it but wanted input from those of you in the two fields or those who regularly observe the changes. Asking because one of my kids is starting college and looking into a few majors. Thanks.

ETA: Would you have reservations about your son or daughter entering either of these degree fields?

AI will replace the repetitive menial tasks in finance/accounting/business.

But you will still need people to understand those concepts for a very long time.

Finance and accounting majors are the most useful of the business degrees so my recommendation is one of those. Much better ROI than a marketing or mgmt degree in my opinion.

They will both be positively impacted.

That’s impossible to answer in this context. You could do a billion different things with these degrees, so some may be heavily affected and others may not really be affected at all

Finance and accounting are hard-ish, therefore chicks go into MKT and dudes into MGT. You don't need a four year degree to know you need to tell the guy in the cube next to you to cover his mouth while coughing.

I would not advice my kids to go into either of those.

You need to push towards STEM or Medical.

You know what America needs right now, native born Civil Engineers. These are like a damn unicorn now.

AI will replace logic-based professions first. Things that still require intuition will take a while for AI to replace, if at all. My opinion, anyways. If logic and intuition are the two circles of a venn diagram, you want to be in a field that puts you in the overlap. Know how to use AI, but also have good gut-instincts.

I’ve never understood the value of general business or management degrees given the popularity of MBA programs.

I don’t think anyone can confidently state how AI is going to change the workforce.

I have both - My company has just now started sending 50% of our work through an AI application as a test, we finished (with our 1/2) yesterday at 10:45 am then sat around with nothing to do for four hours.

This is scary even though our company has told us we will not be replaced by AI, the job I do will not exist in 4-5 years - Most Likely.

Can I ask what is your job?

Does this move to AI impact personal financial planners, retirement planners and the like? I don't know enough about the job fields in finance and business to ask the correct questions.

Yes. To be honest there will be zero need for financial planners in the next 5 years.

So people like Edward Jones advisors and individual retirement planners will go the way of the buggy whip makers? Those headed into retirement over the next 15 years will input their info into a program that will then buy/sell/move their portfolio into the most tax advantageous, retirement friendly plan with no human interaction?

An MBA is a business degree, correct? I was responding to a post that said...

What can a tax planner do now that chatgt can't do? I can tell you after I showed my dad chatgpts money management advice he let his advisor go.

If you have a lot of asset, a lot. For the majority, the W2 class, I agree with you. I think the field is going to be a lot more competitive in the next 20 years, but the ones that make it will continue to do really well

I understand that. It's a graduate degree in business. I'm not understanding what you think was problematic about my post. I originally said "business degrees." That would include bachelor's and masters, no?
