he's been a starter the last 2 years

He has started in games both of the last two seasons*

Not opening day. He's a great guy and a team player, but his tools are limited. He will get run at DH and as a sub. Plus you can't ever count on everyone staying healthy

No one knows until the lineup is released. Jay said today there were 12 position players he’d feel comfortable with. Probably will start/play at some point this weekend.

he’s just a really streaky hitter.
and to some extent most players are.
When he is on he is great but he hasn’t been able to do it over a season.

why doe the OP assume hes not starting?

Career .250 hitter. He got hot last year at the perfect time, but he’s not a guy that is going to blow you away with any of his tools. Maybe he has a Cade Beloso type season and suddenly just figures it out, but odds are you are going to get what you got the last 3 years.

I saw Jay speak today. It’s Curiel, Stanfield and Brown. Larson DH.

He’s probably our 5th best OF from all the info I’ve seen gathered and stats from Fall and pre-season. He will DH and start in spurts for rest/ injury of other players like he has his whole career. He’s never been a consistent starter.

He'll likely still get some starts and at-bats. Of and DH spots will probably be a fluid/situational work in process for a while.
